Ethnicity: White
Grade: 12
Location: Central New Jersey

Fresh - 3.4
Soph - 3.1
Junior - 2.9 (wrote in brag sheet about clinical depression...it really had a big impact on my grades)
Cum (excluding senior) - 3.1

Honors
Soph - History
Junior - French
Senior - English Composition and Statistics. They're both college level courses which I am earning credits for.

I got an 1800 on my SATs, 640 reading, 600 math (1240) and a 560 writing (i messed up terribly on the writing..I got a 700 in practice)

I've got an average of 3 clubs a year, (they changed sometimes but I generally stayed with art related clubs) and I've been taking martial arts since I was 11. I got a lifeguarding job this summer, babysat as a sophomore, and I have a job at my martial arts school as an instructor.

My SATs are above average for that school. On the collegeboard site it says a 3.7 GPA to get in, but I feel that's exaggerated. My brother applied to UNC Asheville (basically same standards) with a 3.2 and 1880 SAT and was accepted last year. And we're from out of state...new Jersey...I hear your chances are higher because they want to make things more diverse.

Also, I wrote a kickass essay, I spent a total of 14 hours on it and had numerous visits with my comp h teacher and other college-educated people. It was very specific to the school and was gushing with enthusiasm and optimism. It also went over the fact that I'm autistic, and now that I have become really high functioning, I'm eager to make it work! At the end of the process, my comp teacher said it was flawless and only made 2 little grammatical corrections.

I applied early action...maybe two or three weeks ago.

What do you think? It's my absolute dream school!

I hope you get into UNCW. Wilmington is a wonderful city. Sounds like you've done everything you could have to get yourself into your dream school.

I can't "chance you" but I can tell you that all state universities in North Carolina must limit, by law, the number of out of state students. (My S is OOS and applying to a NC school, too.) They seem somewhat flexible on the percentage -- I've heard 12%, I've heard 15% -- so it may be a range rather than a fixed number. I don't think they consider "New Jersey" as adding to "diversity." You may want to ask the admissions office at UNCW how they handle the OOS percentage. We talked to the admissions people at UNCA and were told not to worry about it. They don't separate the applications into 2 piles: IS and OOS. Perhaps they don't get more than 15% OOS apps to begin with.

Alright I can do that...What, do I just call up admissions and ask? Sounds good..

I checked college board, it says 20 percent are out of state. I mean..considering the school is right next to South Carolina, I'm sure a lot of them are from SC..

Oh...also...my school doesn't provide class rank. I would guess top 50 percent...our school is extremely overachieving, with the majority of students getting less than 4 hours of sleep at night. If you say your GPA is less than a 3.5 you'll generally get laughed at ._.

Hi ChrisseyC,
I can't tell you what your cances are, but my son's friend ( female In state 3.75 gpa, but sats around 1000 (CR/M) varsity cheerleader 4 yrs, ) did not get into UNCW.
As I say, I can't even guess at your chances, but I wanted to tell you just fyi.
I wish you lots of luck ! Being in NC, I have not heard anyone who didn't love UNCW. My son applied as well.....

The early action notification is in two days...and I'm close to peeing my pants over the wait...I just wanted to hear some more opinions before the big day :P

Im not sure exactly how diificult it is to get into UNCW OOS, but you've got really good stats and decent scores. Wilmington is an awesome city and I really hope you're accepted. Good Luck!!

Out of state son was deferred at UNC-W. Anyone have any insight on chances? I assume not good. Has average grades, sats were fine, heavily involved in sports and activities.
