Chance a kid with awful grades

Schools:

University of North Carolina Wilmington
Coastal Carolina University
Eastern Carolina University
Rutgers University @ New Brunswick (my guidance counselor said I'll get in no prob...I live 10 minutes from campus..but just double checking since it's really good)
SUNY Albany

Ethnicity: White
Grade: 12
Location: Central New Jersey

Fresh - 3.4
Soph - 3.1
Junior - 2.9 (wrote in brag sheet about clinical depression...it really had a big impact on my grades)
Cum (excluding senior) - 3.1 weighted
All of these are weighted, our school doesn't release unweighted grades.

Honors
Soph - History
Junior - French
Senior - English Composition and Statistics. They're both college level courses which I am earning credits for.

I got an 1800 on my SATs, 640 reading, 600 math (1240) and a 560 writing (i messed up terribly on the writing..I got a 700 in practice)

I've got an average of 3 clubs a year, (they changed sometimes but I generally stayed with art related clubs) and I've been taking martial arts since I was 11. I got a lifeguarding job this summer, babysat as a sophomore, and I have a job at my martial arts school as an instructor.

I was really a lot more dedicated to UNC Wilmington than the other schools. My essay to Wilmington was awesome...if that doesn't get me in nothing will. In fact...I only applied to UNCW so far..I'm starting to get worried that I'm doing everything else too late.

I'm getting really worried >>; I'm giving the rest of my apps in on Monday, when I go back to school after the break.

What do you say?

An awful GPA would be a 1.5 or below. Your GPA is not awful; most students would wish they came close to it.

I admit that I know very little about those schools, but I think your scores and grades should be close to what they're looking for. Your six (or seven?) years of martial arts makes you a unique candidate, along with your instructing position.

You can feel pretty confident about SUNY Albany, ECU and CCU--in my view, at least. As for the others: while your GPA isn't "awful," the majority of students applying to UNCW have a 3.75 or above. With that in mind, Wilmington is a definite reach.

Hopes this helps. Chance me if you'd like... http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/593381-middlebury-hamilton-amherst-do-i-have-shot.html

I hate the b word...but bump

I would say you are "target" or "in" for all schools. Not too familliar with Carolina schools, but I know you are IN for Albany and Rutgers. You could even set your sights a bit higher.

Please chance me back. Thanks.
