**University of Pennsylvania Fall 2018 Transfer Thread**

Also I’m not sure if this means anything but I came from a really competitive high school where you had to take a test to get in, and they rank really high nationally for high schools.

@transfer28743 While they will place less weight on your high school record as a junior applicant, Penn states on their website that spots for junior transfers are very limited and they recommend applying to enter as a sophomore. I’m in the same situation as you, so hopefully it works out. I am pretty worried though, as they just had their largest number of freshmen applicants this year, and for the first time last year transfer admissions had a lower acceptance rate than first year, a trend which I would expect to continue this year.

Chancing people is meaningless, but I think you have as good a chance has any of us. Those are some impressive internships, and you’re doing well in college in a difficult major. Your HS GPA really isn’t too bad (better than mine haha) provided you took rigorous courses and a decent amount of APs, which I assume you did if you had to test into the high school. The fact that you’re first generation will help excuse your high school performance a lot as well I think, you likely didn’t have the same guidance in high school a lot of other applicants did, and admissions will understand that.

Best of luck my mans

@Neurophile I think you’ve taken a really thoughtful approach to your transfer process. I would say you can probably keep the core “Why Transfer” essay, but if I were in your shoes, I would still enhance and strengthen your answer to include your growth and academic commitment to your change in major and how Penn is the best school for your needs. My daughter went through the transfer process at Penn as well and I know it is hard and feels redundant but you’ll want to walk away knowing you’d given it everything. I don’t work in Admissions but am pretty confident that 1) they will pull up your prior application (because you’ll have answered the question that you have applied before), and 2) that they will NOT be reading your essays to see improvement. They are looking for the best essays. Period.
Wishing you the best of luck!!

Nice to see another Indian applicant to UPenn this year! Applying as a sophmore from Ashoka University

@betwixt I spoke with the admissions office over the phone today and it sounds like you are right. They said they have access to all aspects of the previous application including the essays and can pull them up, though they rarely do so. Still, I think I will submit my new essay over the one I submitted last year.

Really wishing you the best of luck @Neurophile! Please keep us posted!

I remember seeing on the website that Wharton takes very few junior transfers, but didnt see anything on the Colleges website. Does that policy/tendency apply to the university as a whole?

@shafthalf The 2016-2017 CDS indicated 229 transfer students accepted to all 4 colleges. The year before it was 210. Roughly half to each gender, so you are in the 105-115 pool of applicants, not considering international vs. US, 1st generation, etc. I’m sure you can find out from admissions the approximate number to each college. On the college website it also refers to “very few” junior transfer students. Given the already very low number of transfer acceptances, I imagine it’s only a handful. Here’s the college link info:

@ByeYaleHiWharton Just curious, why are you trying to leave Yale?

@ByeYaleHiWharton Oh okay, I was just curious if you had a bad experience at Yale or anything. Best of luck and welcome to the thread!

@ByeYaleHiWharton
Did you get rejected from Harvard as a senior in high school?

@ByeYaleHiWharton damn that’s gotta be awesome to choose between Harvard and Yale. I’d die of joy just to get into 1 of those xD.

How do you get your high school transcript to be send to Penn after you graduated?

@angelababy30 You just need to contact your high school guidance department and request the transript to be sent to any schools you are applying to. It’s easy!

@betwixt where did everyone apply? anyone apply to Princeton since they opened up their transfers this year?

@CC12342021 My daughter just applied to UPenn. Are you applying to Princeton? Anywhere else?

Princeton yeah! I was applying to UPENN but then I changed my mind. Best of luck to your daughter. @betwixt

Thanks @CC12342021 - she received a Likely Letter so we’re optimistic she’s all set. Her first choice school for lots of reasons, so she’s very happy. Best of luck to you - keep me posted on your success!

I just got invited for an interview for the Penn LPS Bachelors of Arts Program. Anybody have any advice? How is this interview different from the normal Penn Admissions interview?

Is that the college you’ve applied for as a transfer @Transcripts_4rent? If so, then I think they are one and the same - it’s your Penn interview.
