@desie1 My grades in senior year were better than any year before. But it’s not like from B to A+. It’s just like 92 -> 95. I asked around and my friends who got into Penn in early decision round told me that all accepted students in their high school (in China) got the same email asking for the same thing like 10 days before the decision release. But it’s just mid Feb now…
@noviax, I just read through last year’s thread, and apparently PENN decided to only send likelies to Nursing students last year, and they received therm at 3pm est on March 1st, via an email telling them to check a status update on their portal.
Had my Penn interview a couple of days ago. It was the worst interview I’ve ever had, it went for only 30 mins. She asked me to describe my life (so I did not know what to do without seeming boastful, because I obviously had to say something positive about myself) and then she asked me if I had any questions about Penn. She later told me that she finished her French bacc with an OIB diploma (same as me, and I spent quite some time explaining to her what an OIB was because she did not describe herself before our interview, so it was really awkward) and told me to cut down on the stuff I wanted to do at Penn because as a premed with a (desired) minor in a non-science subject I will have 0 free time (thanks for cutting my wings, eh?). She was constantly looking at the clock and opening the door for her cats (she even showed one to me, she was cute), so I guess that she was in a bit of a hurry because of how many interviews Penn alumni have right now. She contacted me 2 days before the interview.
@Theoddorre It’s ok, I empathize with you. My interview did not go too well either. It was a virtual interview, and it was exactly 20 minutes. Though I had done research on Penn, I was unprepared for some of the questions my interviewer asked me. For example, she asked me what specific classes I wanted to take at Penn. I told her that I wanted to take classes in Wharton and SEAS, but I didn’t know any specific class names. I did not think to look up this info.
Anyway, you’re not the only one who had a subpar interview experience. Nevertheless, hopefully we will receive good news in a month. I really like Penn
To those of you with “bad interviews”…if the interviewers were in a hurry, I doubt that they will have that reflect poorly on you in their reports. I wouldn’t sweat it. I also don’t think the interviews mean that much, if anything at all.
Yeah, same general bad interview experience for me. Felt too short, I didn’t think my answers were good at all (from an introspective point of view, not from what I think the interviewer wanted to hear), and the usual interview woes. I’m trying not to sweat it too much (and succeeding somewhat, I’d say)—I don’t think it was bad enough to have any real impact on my application as a whole.
Would it be a good idea for me to send updates as an RD applicant? I got a cool job and I want to let them know about it because I think it is relevant to my application.
@CuriousBobby i guess you can, but have you made any significant impact? if you just got a job, i personally would not update unless i did something significant. this is just my input though.
They give interviews to almost everyone, I think 90% of applicants. To the best of my knowledge it’s just based on availability of alumni in your area.
Still haven’t been contacted for an interview and a couple people from my school interviewed when they applied ED. Should I still be waiting for one or is it most likely too late?
My interview actually went pretty well. It was over the phone, so it was awkward at points. However, it seemed that my interviewer went to Penn for the same reasons that I want to go there.
