@cagphd --turnaround really seems to vary. D submitted her app the week it first opened last summer. Heard nothing back until late October. Scholarship information came out late November for her also. Others seemed to be notified a few weeks earlier. You get an email first and then the letter comes a few days later.
All scholarship info will come in a SEPARATE mailing after admissions notification. It comes in a large pale yellow envelope.
@cagphd, For the email from the Tech Help Desk, it takes a few business days for them to turn everything around and contact you. It is not uncommon for it to take a little over a week.
And @Dolemite is correct. You do not need to fill out short answer question responses, unless you would like to be considered for merit scholarships. They are highly recommended for all applicants.
when does the admissions committee first meet? will we receive an email when there is an update to our admissions status? I am just wondering around what time I should be receiving emails//should start checking my application status. I submitted my application 7/31 and recently checked, and it states that my application is complete. My test scores also have been processed.
Within 72 business hours, you should receive an email to create account and check your application status from CSSD. (For others reading, if you do not receive that email, please check with us to make sure all is well with your application.)
Once your file is complete, the typical turn-around time to receive communication from the Admissions Committee is 3-4 weeks.
However, the Admissions Committee won’t meet and review completed files until the beginning of September at the earliest. Most students who apply in July/August will hear from us by late September.
I’m taking CNA classes at a neighboring high school, how should I put this into my SSAR (dual enrollment?) and should I add that school into the application section along with my primary high school?
My high school uses semester grades, so we get two letter grades for full year classes. I took a few one semester long classes (like genetics), and I’m wondering if it matters on the SSAR if I put the grade into the first semester or second semester column? For example, if I took a semester long class second semester one year and not first semester, should I just put a letter grade in the second semester column? Sorry if that question doesn’t make sense-I just want to clarify.
Also, I took a few online classes through Apex during the school year, they show up normally with my other classes on my transcript and I get semester grades for those also. Is it okay if I just put them in as semester long classes or do I need to set them as “online”?
Here are the step-by-step instructions for entering dual enrollment for your CNA classes:
On My Academic Record tab, select Enter Coursework link and (if prompted) select the high school (not college) where you were enrolled while taking the college courses.
Then select Core Coursework. (If you already did core coursework entry then select the academic year (e.g., 2014-15) you took the course(s) under the Additional Coursework section by clicking on the corresponding black/green arrow.
Select Dual Enrollment from the Course Level drop-down list to identify these courses.
Additionally, if you have not done so already, list the college at which you took Dual Enrollment courses by clicking on the Add Another School button under the My Academic Record, Enter High School/College link, and follow the instructions to list your college attendance information.
When it comes to entering grades and courses (Apex, etc), please aim match the information on your transcript exactly (we will compare the SRAR to your final, official transcript if you are admitted and enroll at Pitt). This should be how you choose what to include or not include as you fill out the SRAR. So for example, if your transcript says that the Apex courses are online courses, please list them as such.
I applied on August 1st or 2nd and had expedited my sat results. My scores were just received by Pitt and marked as confirmed. Pitt is my number one school. Checking the portal and my mail box everyday
Best of luck! Most students who applied in July/August should hear back by late September. The Admissions Committee will start meeting in early September.
@AfroPuffMom, You should have received an email with information about how to log in and check the status of the application (from our Technology Help Desk, not admissions). If you have not received that email by now, please contact our office to check on the status and make sure we have had the opportunity to process everything you sent. We are open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. 412-624-7488.
@hailtopitt1787 Yes, I called on Monday and they said they just hadn’t uploaded the Coalition applications yet and once that happened, the email would be sent. It just seems odd that the Coalition applications have been uploaded for more than a week, I have a confirmation number but since nothing has been uploaded I have no confirmation
@AfroPuffMom, If you still haven’t heard from us within a few business days (and have checked your spam filter and nothing is caught there), please feel free to follow up. With the high volume of applications we receive in the late summer, our turn around times can take a little bit longer as the staff works hard to get everything done.
If you have a confirmation number, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. We will be in touch as soon as the application is uploaded and it is time for any next steps you should need to take. Thanks for your patience!
S16 just submitted his app a week shy of his 17th bday. He’s VERY happy. Loved his visit earlier this summer.
Word to the wise on the SRAR… after double- and triple-checking everything, he still received a series of mystery error messages like 'didn’t report GPA (even after checking the box that school didnt report) and ‘school not listed’. These prevented submission. Turns out, doing the final check of everything, he used the top navigation tabs to move across the forms to ‘Review/Submit’ which meant he missed the final sign off at the bottom of the SRAR.
Recommendation for the final click through of the SRAR and review/submit is to methodically through each form, scrolling down and clicking all the continue buttons at the bottom of each form. Do not use the navigation tabs at the top for the final move to ‘review/submit’.
My son is beginning to apply to colleges since is in his Senior year at Point Loma HS in San Diego. I am a Pitt graduate in Physical Therapy 1991. Hoping to get some more guidance here.
With weighted GPA of 4.1, unweighted 3.7, lots of AP/honors/science classes. 26 ACT, 27 science and math what is his realistic chances for admission into the direct admit RN program.
Does Pitt use weighted GPA?
Does Pitt include the 9-11 grades?
Son is taking ACT test again on Oct 28. Can those scores be used if they are higher than what he has now, or will it be too late?
How long will it take to get the email confirmation that the application was submitted? Also, how will I know when Pitt receives my SAT scores? Just applied today, Pitt is my #1!!!
@Winter08, You should hear from us within a few business days after your app is submitted (with information from Pitt’s Technology Help Desk about how to log in to the applicant portal and view your application status). In that portal, you’ll know when we have your test scores because the application will be marked “Complete.”
Hi all - My son has started Pitt’s online application. He did not find a spot to enter activities and extra-curriculars.
Is that not included in Pitt’s application? Are they sent some other way or with a supplement of some sort? Seems different that they would not want to collect that time of info. Did we just miss a section? Anyone else know how activities would be submitted? T
