I was accepted into the honors program at Swanson’s school of Engineering in November. I also received guaranteed acceptance into graduate school. However, I have not gotten any merit aid. It is my top school and I am really hoping for merit scholarship to attend. Is it likely that a student with graduate school guarantee does not get anything in merit scholarship? @hailtopitt1787
I know it’s hard to wait, but maybe your file just hasn’t been reviewed by the scholarship committee yet. You should hopefully hear in the next couple of weeks. Are you from PA?
No I’m out of state but I know other people that have been notified and I sent out my application a while ago
@Student87847, Unfortunately, I can’t really speak to your individual chances as I am not part of the Scholarship Committee myself. But I would encourage you to look at the listing of what scholarship eligible students have possessed in the past: https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/
Best of luck!
HI, be patient maybe got lost in the mail, try to call the school , I also was accepted into the honors program at Swanson’s school of Engineering in November.02. and in Nov 14 I got a offer for full tuition scholarship and on Dezember 05 I got an offer from Swanson’s school of Engineering i for a a $4k scholarship but I can not use this $4k for room and board only my act was 34 and my gpa is 4.0 on a 4,0 scale , all honors and AP class and dual Credit,
What was your M+CR SAT or ACT?
What was your GPA and rank?
UPitt is unreliable with merit.
720 math 680 CR
31 ACT but it was brought down by science which the website said is disregarded (34 on math 31 on reading 32 English).
Weighted GPA 4.17 (3.923 unweighted)
@mom2collegekids
Well you have a 1400 M+CR
That is higher than an ACT 31, but where did you see that the science is disregarded? Can you show that link.
Hopefully others will chime in, but I thought that Pitt was focusing merit on ACT 33+ ?
Can you contact UPitt and ask. Didn’t you receive your acceptance awhile back?
Pitt superscores and only uses highest math and English from ACT or math, CR from SAT.
So if you have a 34 math and 32 English, you should have a 33 average ACT and that should be enough, but there is no guarantee. Engineering also seems to be more competitive to get the higher scholarships.
But I think getting the graduate guarantee is a good thing and I would expect you to get some merit, especially from OOS. The committee is still meeting through February and I hope you get good news soon. Are your midyear grades increasing your GPA? If they do you might have your school send them. What is your class rank?
You can call and ask so that if any errors were made, they can be corrected. However, getting merit money from Pitt has become extremely competitive. Just making the numbers where most candidates are considered doesn’t mean getting the awards. I’ve known kids with your numbers not get anything; in fact with higher numbers. Whether getting accepted to the masters program as well has any bearing, I do not know. But do call them, so you can get some idea where you are in the process.
@mommdc “I would expect you to get some merit, especially from OOS” So you’re saying that Pitt usually offers more merit to OOS?
I’m not sure that this is the case, but I do think that they are looking for diversity and being OOS might help.
