Class of 2021 Merit Scholarships

Now that Pitt has started sending merit scholarships out, if you receive one, please post the amount you received, along with the school/major you applied to, SAT/ACT scores, GPA, class rank, and any hooks that may have helped.

Moved from Pitt Class of 2021 Decisions Thread where two people reported they have received scholarship letters over the weekend.
@arose99 and @m139pl Congratulations on your Scholarships!!
As you can guess, we are all very excited the letters have started coming out. I’m trying to confirm what you reported above. Did you both get an OOS $20,000 yearly scholarship with an invitation to apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship?
The reason I ask, and I’m only trying to figure out what the trend in scholarship amounts will be this year and not trying to detract from your very generous offers, is in previous years Pitt has given full tuition scholarship to those who were then offered a chance at Chancellor’s Scholarships. If this year they are only doing partial tuition with that invite I’d be curious about that reason.
Can you possibly give us more information about your stats? Class rank? ACT/SAT scores if you didn’t list it? Which college you applied to, etc.? Thanks for any information you can share, and again, congratulations on your scholarships!

Perhaps we should move this conversation over to the Scholarships thread?

My D got the Chancellor’s nomination letter, She is in-state so she was awarded a Full Tuition Scholarship.

Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences
GPA: 3.95 (uw - school does not weight)
ACT: 36
School does not rank
URM

I am out of state. I received a letter telling me I was nominated for Chancellor’s; I got a $20k yearly scholarship, as well.

GPA: 4.761
Rank: 1/389
ACT: 36
Major/school: Bioengineering, SSOE

Hope that helps. Let me know if I can help more

Is it too late for me to receive any scholarships? I got letters today offering me a spot in the honors program and the guaranteed masters program, but I haven’t heard anything about scholarship money. Would I have received notice in my original acceptance letter??
If it helps, I am out of state and have been accepted into the Swanson School of Engineering.

@shooting4stars …of course it’s not too late. Read through the threads and you can see the notifications have only just started going out and applications are considered for merit scholarships until December.

@shooting4stars I received my scholarship letter a few weeks after my acceptance letter and honors letter. It is my understanding that you can receive a scholarship letter all the way up until February; it just depends on how many times the scholarship committee reviews your application.

@Dolemite ,

Congratulations to your D.

@shooting4stars, Scholarship notifications go out weekly from November-March 1st. There is certainly still time. Scholarship notification comes separately from an admission letter.

Best of luck!

Hi, I heard from Pitt yesterday that I was accepted, but no word on merit/honors college/guaranteed masters. Does this mean I did not get any of these things? I am super excited about getting in to Pitt just a little confused on the timeline for these other things. Thanks!!

@AbbyMcDonough1 Honors College acceptances can be in the original letter or in a separate leter! Scholarships are sent out completely separately so no need to worry - just a lot of waiting now.

OOS student, awarded full-tuition scholarship with Chancellor’s nomination.

Stats:
GPA: 4.0 UW (school doesn’t rank)
36 ACT/2400 SAT
Major/School: Pre-med @ Dietrich A&S

D got 10K/year. Applid to Swanson. 2140 SAT, 3.95 GPA, 9+ AP. No invite to Chancellors. Disappointing

Can you guys also put when you applied/were accepted and out of state vs in state?

I got a letter from Pitt today. Was hoping it was news about scholarships, but it was just a letter saying why Pitt was a great value. Very disappointing, as Pitt will be very expensive compared to other, similarly ranked schools if I get no scholarship money, but I really do love Pitt, so still hoping for the best.

@kansub …congrats! Is that in-state or OOS? Rank?

Thanks for indulging all of us in the waiting room.

OOS student, awarded full-tuition scholarship w/ Chancellor’s nomination

2350 SAT, 3.98 GPA, creative writing awards as a possible hook

Did anyone receive letters this week?

So far the students getting $20k to full tuition seem to be in engineering or A&S and have 36 ACT scores and very high rank.

@kansub, is a 2140 SAT equivalent to an ACT 33? I think the $10k merit is pretty generous, especially since engineering merit is so competitive.

@mommdc Does that suggest merit scholarships for business school come later on? Anxiously waiting for news about merit. I’m ranked #2 and have a 34 ACT so I felt good about my chances, but everyone here has 36s so far. :frowning:

@class0f2017 it’s possible. I don’t know. It could just be random. But hang in there. Committee has only met three times so far, right?
