Today I received an email from Pitt which is the school I really want to go to more than anything. It said they were granting me special status when I apply with a streamlined application and quick admission decision. They said my ambition stood out to them and to apply early to take advantage of benefits. Obviously I will be sure to as I definately want to go there! But I wanted to ask you guys if any of you knew anything else about this topic? Do they usually admit most of the students that they send this email to? Also I took the SATs for the first time and results are not yet posted online for me to see. Would pitt have been able to access my scores somehow and would that factor into the special status? Thanks for your time and answers in advance!

Yes. A company they subcontracted sent this email to all students within a certain radius whose test scores match the minimum they want to see. It doesn’t mean your scores are high or that they know about you, just that you’re above the cutoff scores and don’t live so far you’d be out of the catchment radius. There is unfortunately no correlation between getting that email and getting in. It’s a marketing technique. However it doesn’t mean you won’t get in either.
Take advantage of the offer since the school interests you. DO apply early - post back here with your scores, we’ll let you know whether they’re good enough or if you need to retake. If your scores are okay, apply using your streamlined application as soon as you’re allowed to, it could be as early as July or August 1st.
The streamlined application is always good, especially if they waive the fee. (Email them and ask whether your application fee would be waived if you applied before October). If you’re really interested, do NOT assume the admission officers know about you: as indicated above, it’s a third party sending these automatically. Therefore, even though Pitt doesn’t really track interest, it’s to your advantage to go online and complete the “request info” forms online. Once you’ve read the website and the publications, email questions (the answers to which are NOT in the brochures). What’s your GPA? Do you have AP’s? In practice tests, how high did you score on your SAT?

Thank you, that was very helpful! My weighted GPA is 3.97 and unweighted is around 3.77.
All of my honors/ AP classes throughout high school include:
Honors Geometry
Honors Algebra 2
Honors Trigonometry/ Precalculus
AP Calculus AB
CHS Statistics
AP English Language & Composition
AP English Literature & Composition
Honors Spanish 4
Honors Anatomy

I have 4 units of English, Social Studies, Science, and Spanish. I have 5 units of Math. Also, the courses I’m not in honors or AP for are college prep courses.

I will post my SAT scores onto this thread when I receive them on May 22. I was confused as to how colleges could access them before that because the website said that scores are sent to me and colleges on the 22nd.

So this definately means that I Pitt viewed my SAT and I met their requirements?

No, it’s probably from the PSAT, if you took it. Or most likely, from your AP exams.

I only took one AP class this year and the results aren’t back yet.
