Hello,
Our son was admitted to both, UoP slightly better merit aid and lower starting cost, but when we priced it all out, it landed close enough financially to consider them both.
I’m curious if anyone has any opinions on either program, or the comparison if you are looking similarly?
We plan to go to the admitted students days for both, and he has already visited UoP but not UoPS.
First time college mom in awe of how different everything is now, so I appreciate any advice!!
Thank you.
UoP is ranked slightly better, and considering that its a bit cheaper, I’d go to UoP. I’m no expert though. If u live in Oregon, then I’d definitely go to UoP. Why not Oregon State or U dub (depending on which state u live in)? They have higher name recognition and rank. U dub-Seattle is one of the best in the country for CS.
Direct admission to CS at the University of Washington is ultra-competitive.
Thank you. So, we are not Washington residents so cannot afford UW. We saw and he initially liked WSU (And parents loved the price tag) but in the end he really feels small school is more for him. Both UoP and Puget Sound offered great merit aid packages, Puget Sound admitted him to honor’s college but UoP waitlisted for theirs.
Honestly, with all that has changed in the world at this point he may select UoP by default b/c we never got to visit Puget Sound. As a parent, this leaves me incredibly sad as it is the ONLY one he applied to (that’s not local) that we didn’t see b/c we just had to make a hard choice last year on visits and never in my wildest dreams did I think we would not be able to go back this year Puget Sound ended up being near top of his list but due to this COVID-19 all admitted student events are cancelled (which I TOTALLY understand). We had trips planned for both over spring break.
He’s happy with UoP, I’m just the kind of person who wants to see ALL MY OPTIONS for EVERYTHING before deciding so wanted him to be able to do that as well. Plus at UoP we only took the basic run-of-the-mill tour; he didn’t get to sit in on a class or anything so I feel like the decision is being made on incomplete data.
Admissions office did connect him with a student to talk to, so that helped him feel good about it all.
Thanks for listening.
One has a religious component, not the other - he should look at the general education and distribution requirements at both.
