University of Richmond co2021 RD

@brady12345 Good luck in Ann Arbor. Great school…most of my family went there. Truly appreciate you pulling your application to give those on the Wait List a shot especially when U of R is their #1 school. I have been amazed to see how many kids who already have been accepted and know they will attend their top choice do not pull applications because they want to see that they can get into other top schools. Thanks

So while we think UR is a great option, we are going to decline my D’s offer of admission. The problem? D can’t seem to figure out how to do so? The portal doesn’t offer the option and the info D was sent in the mail only has info on accepting a spot. I know there is a robust waitlist at UR, so would like to free up D’s spot as soon as possible.

@BDsMom I would just call! Admissions is super helpful.

@BDsMom If you want to reject your spot, look for your brochure that opens up with “One Reaffirming Answer: YES!” You should have got one in your packet. On the back page, fill out the form on the back - Enrollment Confirmation - in the negative. Then, either tear it out and send it back to them or scan it and email it to application@richmond.edu.

Hope this helps, and I hope your D loves the place she decides on!

How do we figure out our financial aid package?

@dfdsfakfja It should have been included in the packet you received. It would have been a few pages.

OK, so my son committed to UR today! We’re pretty excited. We’re not familiar with how the whole roommate thing works. I know there are sites you sign up on and create a profile, but is there a specific one per college or are there multiple options? What should he do for UR?

UR at $60/65k a year (No Aid) or University of South Carolina Honors College at $19k a year (OOS got in state and even more merit $$) … what would you do?

@wptugs I do not want to be in any way a final say in this (I’m not even going to make a suggestion either way), but I would recommend including your economic standing and how much of an impact this price tag will have on your family. This has to be noted before an adequate and informed suggestion can be made.

I’m relying on a ton of money in aid, so of course I’d rather take out $20K/year loans than $65K/year ones (which I would never do; in your position, I would just attend community college for free and save up money for the next years in an in-state public university). On the other hand, many people are more than happy to pay such a price for an education they consider will be the best for their children in their future career and networking (esp. in business).

@candjsdad “Complete Your Housing Application (Available April 17, [accepted] through June 4)
. . . To access the application, sign on to Bannerweb, click on Student Services, HousingMenu, Connect to StarRez. Follow the instructions on each page within StarRez. You must complete each page to be able to move forward to the next page. The roommate section will open on May 19 [where] you will be able to request a specific roommate or search for a roommate. You are not required to choose a roommate. You will not be selecting a room.”

Don’t worry about it until later, and I’m sure he’ll figure it out from the instructions if he follows along with the checklist. For now, just make sure that he has confirmed his enrollment with UR and has activated his Richmond account (with the richmond email, username, password, security questions, and all of the other bells and whistles) - If he hasn’t, refer to the checklist linked.

Also, congrats for your son! I hope he loves it and I’ll be joining him there in August!

Are any of you going to the accepted students days, Experience Richmond?

@cloudysmom I for one will unfortunately not be. I live around 850 miles away and would rather conserve the money for necessary trips when I actually have to go study over pleasure trips despite the obvious benefits.

I understand, we drove up this morning, we’re there now! The school is so beautiful with the flowers blooming!

@cloudysmom - Are you still around University of Richmond? My daughter was thinking of heading over to Carytown.

@cloudysmom We will be coming down with my son on the 22nd.

Guys - I just declined my admission. Hope someone who was wait-listed gets the spot I cleared. Good luck.

Richmond is extremely generous with merit. We found out the hard way with D1 when she got accepted to Wellesley, Swarthmore and Brown without a penny of FA. They don’t give merit, didn’t know that at the time but have since learned a lot. D1 and D2 go to W&M and Richmond as scholars. UR also has a variety of smaller scholarships that students can apply to. D2 at UR pays less than D1 at W&M. Both have had amazing opportunities and experiences.

I would go to USC. It is a great school. My niece attended and has since gone on to get a MS and is very successful.

@LMHLAW3 my friend didn’t get any aid from Richmond, and shes middle/upper class.I would say the aid is inconsistent

We would probably not have gotten FA but UR is very generous with merit aid. My D2 would not have been able to attend without it.
