Hi everyone I’m trying to decide which one of these I should go to if I get accepted to both. I plan on majoring in Biology and/or something else science related. I’ve looked at their Niche profiles and University of Richmond has other traits more suitable for me such as food and class size but i couldn’t find much information of the quality of their biology departments. I haven’t visited either of these colleges yet and I only have the opportunity to visit one of them (long story hard to explain), so I wouldn’t really be able to compare them by visiting.
Obviously it would be best if you could visit both, but even visiting one of them is good. I’ll assume you’re a Virginia resident since you’re mentioning VA schools, in which case I would probably go with William and Mary. The cost for in-state is fantastic, and it’s a very well-regarded university. I don’t know much about University of Richmond, just that it’s more expensive and not ranked as highly, for whatever that’s worth.
A family friend of mine went to William and Mary and majored in neuroscience. He loved it and has since gotten into a good graduate program.
Thanks for your reply. I’m not a Virginia resident, which is part of the reason why I can’t visit both, since both visit sessions take place on the same day at the same time and my parents are unable to take two days off of work in a row, and it would be a hassle to have to drive all the way to Virginia a second time.
UR has an excellent biology department. Many students are involved in undergraduate research and the class sizes are small. You really get to know your professors and get individualized attention.
Both would be fine choices. I think the two schools are somewhat close to each other so I would see if you can visit both over a long weekend or something. Most colleges offer information sessions and tours most days. If you have to choose only one think about if you prefer a LAC or a mid-sized university. If you can’t visit both schools before applying and you ultimately get in to both you can try to visit the other one before deciding.
why not have your parents take either a Friday or Monday off? Then you could spend either Sat or Sunday at least visiting the “other” school’s campus.
And since they’re OOS, be sure to have your parents run the NPCs before you go. If they’re fine with the results, then super. But if they’re not fine with the results then would there be a point in still going?
