Hi guys, can any of you tell me smt about UR’s business program? and perhaps, if you can, more about the internships, jobs placement and alumni network here? Thanks (y)
Hello!
As you may or may not have known, for many years, UR has been consistently ranked in the top 20 for undergraduate business schools. But in 2016, for some reason, Bloomberg decided to take Academic Quality out of how it formed its ranking list. This led to Villanova being ranked as the #1 undergrad business school & UPenn as #16. So that list is obviously garbage & you don’t need to pay attention to that if you stumble upon it.
Overall, Richmond’s business school is very, very well regarded in DC and NYC, and even in the small southern city that I’m from. It’s not as well known on the West Coast, because we’re such a small school.
As far as placement, we aren’t UPenn, but we do have some alum go on to Bain/McKinsey/BCG, plenty go into IB, and even more going to the Big 4 for Accounting (they recruit heavily here). We also have plenty of alumni at places like Google, WSJ, Facebook, HUGE (a very well regarded ad agency), Microsoft, and more. And I’m just naming a couple companies where I know people.
Our career services is also very helpful (#8 by Princeton Review), and I’ve actually had to help a younger sibling at a top 10 school with networking and finding internships because their career services wasn’t much help. Thanks to the size of the school, career advisers really get to know you and there are tons of events like Q-camp, “Deconstructing [your industry]” workshops, or roadtrips where you are trained how to be a great networker and are then given opportunities to try out your skills. I’ve only started my senior year, but I’ve had countless people compliment me on how I network, saying that they appreciate how respectful and informed I am, because apparently a lot of college kids mess this up!
Overall, you’ll find that bschool classes are quite hard (you might have to work your butt off for a B a few times), but the environment isn’t too cutthroat other than that. I also really love how open the professors are - they’re almost always there to meet with you and help you out with any concerns you have.
Hope this helps!!
