University of Rochester vs Penn State University

Yes

I just googled. I don’t see where UIUC is ranked higher as a National University (34/47 UR/UIUC) or in Economics (60 vs 64 UR/UIUC), but if you’re using a different source, suit yourself. I just looked on the opening Google search page because honestly, it doesn’t matter to me which you choose. It just surprised me to see someone thought UIUC was higher and I wanted to check to see if my thoughts were correct or not.

Ranking only goes so far anyway to me.

if you don’t mind me asking
where are you transferring from?

I’m also curious where you see that UIUC is ranked higher then Rochester. That really surprises me.

Personally, I disregard graduate department rankings as counterproductive to the search for an undergraduate college.

However, its confusing to me on what basis you would conclude that a school ranked 47th in its undergraduate U.S. News category (UIUC) is ranked higher than a school ranked 34th in the same category (URochester).

In any case, whichever school you choose, you did very well get into the University of Rochester.

I’m a International students, so in Japan, the company look for QS of THE world ranking. That’s why I said UIUC ranks higher.

Boston college

Ah, that makes sense for you then.

It’s really odd here in the US where UR is the better ranked school, but if ranking means “whatever” for your future, go where the people who are hiring you think is best.

U Roch is fantastic for economics and I’d definitely vote for U Roch over UIUC.

BC has a good program too, though, and potentially somewhat more on-campus recruiting than U Roch if you were aiming for employment in Boston or NYC right out of college. From a US perspective, it’s hard to imagine academic reasons to transfer from BC to UIUC for econ unless the real reason were unrelated, such as price or overall fit. It’s interesting that international employers would pay such close attention to a world ranking.

The methods of “world rankings” generally do not apply to the educational experience of undergraduates in the U.S. UIUC offers excellent academics in several areas, but has been known as a party school as well. In terms of rankings, UIUC placed first at least once in a Princeton Review “party school” ranking, which relied on surveys of students on aspects such as study habits and alcohol consumption.

They are both great schools, but Illinois is much more well-known internationally than Rochester. Also, about four feet less snow each winter.

Do you mean Boston College, or a college in Boston?
