Hi,
I am a pretty strong student, and I have felt fairly confident in my chances with UR in the past. However, I just read the credentials of some of the accepted students for fall of 2016). Sheesh, that’s a high bar! I would greatly appreciate it if someone who might know this sort of thing could give me some feedback. Rochester is one of my top schools, if not my #1 choice.
Unweighted GPA: 4.2 (as of last year, my APs this year will bring it up a bit)

Only rejected students with credentials higher than yours would give you a negative indication of your own chances. You are very strong student with meaningful extracurriculars, and should expect to be admitted for those reasons. My relative, btw, has Rochester in her final two. Good luck.
Thank you for the help! And yes, from a totally rational standpoint, you’re right; it’s just hard to see myself as being at the level of some of these amazing applicants. I think people tend to see (and focus more on) room for improvement when analyzing themselves, so that’s why I really appreciate the impartial advice.
This kind of puts my mind at ease.
Thank you, and good luck to you and/or your family!
But from your grades and extracurricular, I’m sure you’ll get in. And majoring in linguistic? Definitely. They love students with distinct interests. Good luck!
I think you have a great shot-- the fact you have taken two languages is great! Your scores are great, and your GPA is fine. As long as recommendations and your essays are good, then I would be very surprised if you didn’t get in! Hope this helps, and good luck!
