University of Southern California vs Loyola Marymount

I have always wanted to attend LMU, but was also accepted at USC. It has been a stressful and tough decision that needs to be finalized by midnight. I like the small suburban setting/environment of LMU, however have heard its extremely quiet on the weekends and doesn't have a whole lot going on. USC on the other hand I like because of the prestige/name and abundance of social activities you can do on and off campus. However I do not like the urban and larger environment as much. Any input or ideas would help.

What is your intended major? Where are you coming from? What will you look for (initially) in your college experience? Have you visited either campus?

addressing what you mentioned in your post,

i have a couple of friends that go to lmu and, honestly, their social life is completely full. it CAN be a boring place, but there are also plenty of opportunities to get involved and go to parties. actually, i heard (not sure if its true, but im like 80% it is) that lmu has buses that take students to clubs and brings them back.
also, lmu is much smaller. so, if you are used to or want that intimate, see people you recognize everyday feeling, i would go with this school.

as for usc, even though its in the middle of downtown la, i feel like the actual campus isn’t as fast paced. i’m not sure why you don’t like the urban environment, though, so i can’t say much about that. but, even though there’s a larger student body, the legendary “trojan family” feeling is really incomparable!

being as unbiased as possible, from what you said, i would go with usc. that is, if the big city setting is your only concern. i think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much everything else it has to offer overshadows its location.

My intended major is psychology.

I have visited both campuses, I felt more comfortable on LMU’s campus. That may be because I had been there before as a kid. I want to have fun, be in an environment where I learn a lot but also can have a peaceful place to come back too and sooth the pressures of being away from home and at school. As for social life, I definitely dont want to always be bored because nothing is going on. At the same time I am completely content with going out like once or twice a weekend.

I went to LMU and Im transferring to USC.

The LMU campus is very quiet you can tell when classes get out and almost like highschool at times because everyone is so clickish

LMU does not have a lot going on but you should be okay making friends. There is also always things to do off campus. But most of the students I know did things at other schools like UCLA & USC. LMU does not have has many traditions as USC, it just not a typical college experience. I am very happy to be leaving.
