So I’ve noticed that many American students have been accepted into the University of St. Andrews unconditionally. I am nervous that because I am doing both AP and IB that I will not be and I don’t trust that my IB scores will be good enough for me to get into the program I want if they accept me conditionally. Also, by the time I would know my scores I would have already had to commit to another American university because I just don’t want to run the risk. So, my question is that if I have AP exam scores and the IB, will they accept me conditionally because of IB or unconditionally as I’m an American student? Thanks so much for the help and sorry I’m just reallyyyy nervous because it is my top choice!
Whether you get a conditional or unconditional offer is not about being American, but whether you have met he admission requirements. The students who get unconditional offers took enough APs / SAT subject tests before they applied. If you already have enough (subject appropriate) AP / SAT subject test scores you are eligible for (but there is no guarantee of) an unconditional offer.
Most students - US or UK- get conditional offers. There are two ways to deal with that: put a deposit on a US university, or choose another UK university where you very sure of getting an offer.
What are your scores now, What course are you applying for?
As of now:
ACT: 31 (just took it again 5 days ago and expect to do better as I spent a lot of time studying)
AP: US History - 5, Spanish - 5, English Lit - 4, Biology - 4, European History - 3 (took this one sophomore year) Plan to take AP Psych and AP Government at the end of senior year
SAT Subject Tests: I am planning on taking the Math SAT subject tests and the US history one in October and I’m sure I will do well
IB: I took 2 IB tests junior year, Spanish and Economics (SL) and got a 6 on both of them
My GPA is a 3.9 out of 4.0 and I had perfect grades last year
I’m super involved so lots of extracurriculars
I’m applying for Economics!!
Thanks so much for the help.
@elguapo1 sorry I’m new to this and don’t know if I have to tag you or anything haha
You should be good for an offer I am not quite sure if it will be unconditional or not. Economics might require a 650+ on your Sat II Maths. Make sure you have a good personal statement and don’t worry too much about extracurriculars they are not important. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice and reassurance! I’m hoping to get an unconditional but also will totally understand if I don’t.
