University of St. Andrews BA to Top US Grad Schools Legitimacy

Hey guys!

I’m from the US and going to attend the University of St. Andrews this September. I have two burning questions I hope may be answered by you folk.

  1. How is the general perceived view of St. Andrews? How's its worldwide reputation? And specifically, how is its reputation in the US (i.e notoriety for college know-all's and average joes)?
  2. I aim, after graduating, to attend a top grad school in the US, a Harvard/Yale or Stanford, or stick to the UK and apply to Oxbridge. Does graduating (which I aim to do with first class honors) from St. Andrews allow my chances to attend these schools as for my masters/PhD to be an option worth looking to? Is it within the realm of possibility?

Thanks guys!

Edit!

I seem to have written “University of St. Andrews BA” in the title. I’m not quite sure if they call BA’s as we do here in the US, so pardon me if that’s not the case. Point is, St. And degree to top US grad schools.

The undergraduate degree awarded at St Andrew’s is called an MA in the humanities (not equivalent to an MA elsewhere), BSc in STEM. Had you not discovered that when you were applying?

Getting into graduate school at Oxbridge or an elite US institution depends on various factors, including your record as an undergraduate, letters of recommendation, your fit with the programme in question, in the US your GRE scores, in the UK for a PhD your proposed thesis/project. But you haven’t even started your first degree yet - it’s premature to be predicting your final class of degree or thinking of where you go to grad school.
