Hello. I’ve been considering UT Sykes Business School and Rowan Rohrer for MIS, but I came to this forum trying to figure out which of these 2 unis is better for MIS (higher pay, better jobs, better employment outcomes, rankings, quality, etc.) I heard that UT Sykes is in the top 10 best Florida business schools, but I’m not sure where Rowan is placed. I REALLY am lost, and I would like to know which program is better based on the above criteria. Thank you very much.
You sound like the parent not the student when you use the term “unis”
The one that’s better is the cheaper one. Limit debt. If you’re in state jersey then go Rowan
Get good grades, limit debt, pick a major where there will be jobs—— all more important then where you went to school
I am NY resident, not NJ, and both colleges roughly cost the same to me. Nevertheless, which program is better? Thank you.
Neither one has a national reputation. Certainly Rowan would be more we’ll known in the tri state area. The better one is the one you feel more comfortable with assuming cost is the same. By the way, you’re much better off majoring in computer science than mis
Consider if you’d rather work in FL or the NJ area after graduation.
Have you looked at any SUNY schools if you are NYS resident?
SUNY schools don’t have ABET accreditation for MIS, and doubt that they even have MIS. The 4 CAC-ABET accredited MIS programs in the country are Wright State (Ohio), U Nebraska-Lincoln, Rowan & U Tampa.
What do you mean by the tri-state area (NJ/NY and what other state)?
The tri-state area is typically considered to be NY/NJ/CT
Also, is CS or MIS easier? I find too much theory or coding to be hard, and I’d rather learn applicable skills (like half Management/business skils and halfish computing) than just programming. MIS seems to be very nice in that aspect, but njdadjets said that CS is better than MIS. Does an MIS major vs CS major affect software/IT/programming jobs?
Also, is CAC-ABET accreditation of MIS important? There are only 4 CAC-ABET accredited MIS schools in the nation, and I want to know whether or not attending one is important (Rowan seems to be the best one among them, because its close to home). Or else, I could go to a college like UT Austin and do a non CAC-ABET accredited BBA MIS there.
Is Rowan looked upon favorably in NY/NJ/CT, and are CUNY/SUNY or UConn grads look on better for jobs (than Rohrer MIS grads) in the area? Rowan is a small school, and I was wondering whether or not it is well known and respected here.
Go to the school with the cheapest net price to limit your debt and get the best grades you can get

My parents have A LOT in my college fund, so I’m not too worried about tuition, but I have kept it in mind.
Rowan is a south Jersey school close to Philly. It has a reputation as a party school around these parts.

If you choose UTampa and want to work in the tr-state region after college you will still face competition from CUNY/Penn State/UConn/Rutgers grads. And UTampa likely has much stronger alumni/job connections in FL than in the tri-state area.
I suggest you try contacting the career placement offices at these schools and see if you can get information as to where grads end up working.
