Here we go…first audition (of 8, plus Chicago Unifieds) this Sunday at U Tampa! My D elected to not audition for any schools requiring pre-screens, so she is really just getting started. (Not in school currently, taking a gap year for various reasons.) We are figuring it will be a relatively “low stress” way to start out since it is lesser known, and I’m not 100% sure we can afford it anyway with just the merit aid she would qualify for. ;
Anybody else heading there this weekend? Any input on the Tampa MT program?
@catznpigz Hope your D have a great audition. My D auditioned in October. It was very low key. She sang and did her monologue. There is no dance component. Message me if you have any questions
Thanks! I personally was very impressed by Tampa and think it looks like a great program. Loved the city center location! That being said, Tampa was her first audition, she did not know what to expect, and messed up one of her songs (pretty spectacularly, according to her!) So she is not expecting an offer, and has changed out that song for future auditions because of the experience; turns out it is a “sounds great normally but does not go well if she is nervous or stressed” song, LOL. Who knew. :))
Is UT a cut program? Their website lists “Students who do not successfully complete the second-year evaluation review will not be allowed to continue in the musical theatre program.”
That was discussed during the information session we attended; I believe that, like pretty much all programs, if it looks like someone isn’t progressing or isn’t suited for the program they would be encouraged to explore different majors. I don’t think that would be what you are referring to as a “cut program.”
My D auditioned in October and was accepted in November. There was no dance call. She really felt a connection in the room! They asked her questions and she was just open and honest!! Hope your D breaks legs! Feel free to PM if you have any questions.
