Im a junior in high school, and thinking about U. of Tampa. I like it because the campus appears to be nice looking, its not as expensive as schools up here(Boston), and the weather is usually nice and warm.
I might possibly visit it in February to get more of a feel, but for now I have some questions.
How are the academics? It is really a big party school, I cant see how since most of the apartments and dorms are alchohol free.... How nice is its location? Would it be a challenge to get to the beach a few times a year with some friends? How are the freshman dorms? It the campus good looking?
Could i get in with these extra curriculars and what not?

-Part time landscaper during freshman, sophmore, and junior year(20-40hours a week)

If you could help me with some information I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I don't know that much about the academics, but I live in Tampa. The campus buildings are beautiful and it is near a great part of town with good restaurants, theaters, etc. Nice beaches are 20 mins. away and you could go every weekend if you wanted.

Hi! My d was just accepted to U of Tampa. We'll be visiting the campus in February and will make a decision based on our one and only visit. We were drawn to U of Tampa also because of the reasonable tuition, location (sans hurricanes) and based on the viewbook & website it looks extremely promising. Also, the school offers a Dean Scholarship up to $8000 a year for those with a 3.2 average . We were extremely delighted when the school already offered her the full $8000 based on her 3.3 average. So this school is looking better to me all the time. Anyway- there was a thread last year about U. of Tampa. I believe audiophile also responded on that thread too. If you can link back to my posts on p. 12 0f 14 - from 2/9/05- there was a discussion on U of Tampa so that may give you additional info. A good percentage of the kids are from the northeast so though in Florida, it may have a different environment than the other Florida state colleges like USF or UCF. As not too many cc'rs are looking at U of Tampa, I'll pass along any info I get. Good luck- maybe I'll see you down there in February.

Thanks I read through the post. Hopefully by senior year I'll have a 3.2GPA average, if I'm going to apply that is. The only flaw of the school that i can see is the 'novelty' of Florida wearing off as one of the posters had said. I guess that could be true, and I don't want that to happen to me. I have always been a 'homeboy', in meaning I like to be around my house and haven't really left my house for an extended time. But I wanted something new from college and I would like to get away from my hometown(a poor dump). Hopefully I'll make my decision wether to travel or not soon. Thanks
