@EraseEgo at the end of this week last year, there were a lot of decisions reported. As to whether or not that’ll happen again this year…? Only UT knows. Each year seems a little different from the last with regard to the decision releases. Still, the really good news is that, for those who applied by the priority deadline, no more than three more weeks to a decision. For everyone else, within the next six to seven weeks! This is the home stretch!
@EraseEgo reviewing the forum last year, the first Thursday after the break seems like the first big wave. It could be Friday this year. The first 2 weeks of January seem like big waves for most in-state. The third week looks like CAP and on Feb 1st is the last small wave of acceptances along with deferrals and rejections. It could be different this year.
UT2024 Wonder if this is the same for OOS kids?
Do you mind sharing her stats? Congrats to her!
I am going nuts waiting for the admission decisions for my twin boys. We are native Texans but have been living in Philly for the past 4 years. The boys want to get back to Texas. One is applying for Cola with 35 ACT & 4.0 unweighted, national merit commended, the other applied to McCombs with 34 ACT, 4.0 & national merit commended… I hope this is good enough to get in OOS!!! Do their chances seem good?
@Zipdog9 - great stats - as you know its really tough OOS…would think we all know in next couple of weeks…
Thank you! Keeping fingers crossed!
Have been away from the board for a while and wanted to update. My son (in-state, private school) was accepted into Aerospace Engineering the week before Christmas break started.
What’s the over/under on getting a decent size release of decisions this week?
Well the AA’s that didnt get their first choice major have to select their COLA major before UT can admit/reject the rest of the applicants. They have to put the AAs somewhere.
In-state - Auto
Class Rank #1/901
ACT 35 Math 36
SAT subject Math II 800/ Physics 760
All possible AP courses
AMIE qual multiple years, FBLA Nationals, several UIL top placements, several corporate competition placements multiple years, UTD competition placement multiple years.
What are my chances for CS? Is Turing even remotely possible?
lol
@UTTexan If not you, who?
Could someone please help me with these terms?
What is “CAP”?
What is “COLA major”?
Thanks.
@ATTX “CAP” is UT’s “Coordinated Admissions Program”. It’s a soft, initial, rejection that allows in-state applicants to start out at one of the UT System schools (not Austin campus), then, upon fulfilling the stipulated requirements, they can transfer to COLA (college of liberal arts) at UT Austin.
@UTTexan you obviously know that you’re a strong candidate. But, Turing is tough. A lot of people underestimate the impact of the long resume, the honors essays + supplements, and LORs for honors placement. Those things are 50% of the evaluation. Unfortunately, the quality of those things, we can’t ‘chance’.
Being an otherwise academic rockstar, you need to have knocked PAI out of the park. Was your writing very strong? Did you put a lot of effort into your long resume, revealing details and characteristics that were not apparent in your admissions app? Were your LORs excellent? Did you demonstrate how you’d be a game changer? That’s what’s going to make the difference. Keep us posted!
@UTTexan I would say about 99% … seriously unless you applied after the deadline, you are a lock. Turing is definitely possible, but that is another topic in itself regarding essays, LORs, ECs, etc…
Thank you all! Very tense here. I do not have a backup :(.
Essays - I dont know. I dont think i am very good.
@mikeinsugarland - “Congratulations, You’ve been automatically admitted to the Class of 2024 at The University of Texas at Austin.
Your application is still being considered for admission to your requested major. Find out more about automatic admission.Your freshman application completed on 10/31/2019. You’ve met our priority application deadline.”
My daughter applied to Cockrell (aerospace) but did not include any LOR which makes me sad because she had excellent letters! Big mistake on her part. At the time she was focused on another school and considered UT a back up because she is auto admit. She has since changed her mind and UT is now #1. I’m wondering how much it will hurt her not having any LOR. Any idea? Admission says they are “optional” but obviously with engineering being so competitive you need all the help you can get. She has already been accepted into TAMU’s engineering program and Colorado School of Mines but they aren’t as competitive as UT.
Congrats @dorjwill ! would you mind sharing your son’s stats?
@Flea68. Don’t worry about not uploading LOR. My sons did not upload any either. One was accepted into aerospace engineering at the very beginning of last December. However, my other son with pretty similar stat (EECE major) still have not heard anything back for his major yet.
