waiting OOS too!
@TexasEx1998 Same here! My daughter received notice this evening that she got into Civil Engineering. Her 1st choice was Aerospace and 2nd Mechanical. She has mixed feelings. I keep telling her she got into one of the hardest programs and should be proud of herself! There is still TAMU but no guarantee she will get into Aerospace there. I think they apply after freshman year.
You are completely correct. It is an amazing accomplishment. I said the same thing to my son. I hate that he doesn’t have that excited jumping up and down moment and feels rejected, but it could be so much worse.
@TexasEx1998 That is correct they apply after their first year and there is no guarantee they get their major of choice. Aerospace is highly competitive and they are required to have a 3.5 gpa to guarantee their major after their freshman year and I’ve seen so many kids with a 3.2 get their 4th choice major or change majors. My son started in general engineering and is now changing his major due to this because some of the courses make it very difficult to maintain this GPA. Just FYI
My daughter auto admit was just accepted into her 1st choice major Biochemistry. Has already been accepted at A&M for Biomedical just weighing her options depending on the cost. Is wanting to go to Medical school so not sure if it matters where she does her undergrad as long as she meets the prerequisites?
One of my twins was accepted early into the RTF program, but the other applied for marketing as her first choice and interior design as her other choice, but was just notified today that she did not get either. So we clicked on the link for our options hoping to get College of Communications and all we got were Liberal Arts options and Undeclared. So she chose undeclared but now I’m wondering if it’s worth the risk of whether or not she’ll get her choice of major next year. (advertising)
When is the next time OOS students might hear?
Have there been any review admit acceptances for BSN?
@lfrausto1 would you mind sharing your daughter’s stats?
This is just a guess, but I imagine they have to wait for the AA applicants who did not get their major choices to choose one (which I understand are mostly COLA majors?) before they can finalize the non-AA and OOS decisions. It would be nice to hear from these people if there was a deadline for them to pick a major. In the end, though, it’s anyone’s guess when we will hear! Good luck to everyone.
my OOS daughter was admitted on 2/1/18 with priority application. not all of the late decisions are rejections
I read some very unpleasant experiences on reddit in response to this last wave. If you search “ut austin ‘your choice of major’ degree plan” it will take you to the detailed scheduling for the four years. Appealing (https://utdirect.utexas.edu/apps/adm/appeal/) may work and I heard internal transfer is possible but very competitive.
@ttd11244 the only thing we know for sure is before 2/1 if you applied priority
For those AAs that did not receive their first or second choice majors, I’m so sorry. I am curious if they gave you a deadline for choosing an alternate major? Thank you!
Wave tonight?
My niece was an auto admit and was denied from her first and second choice.
Her first choice was in engineering, and second choice was in the college of science. She was given a list of random majors in COLA to choose from, majors that weren’t full, but has no interest in any as she is a math & science girl. I called admissions and was advised that she should choose general studies, so she did. She will appeal, but wondering if anyone might have advice. She has been accepted to A&M for engineering, but UT is her first choice!. She will choose major over university. All feedback is greatly appreciated!
@123vca Texas A&M has a great engineering program. Internal transfers are so hard at UT - unless she knows she can go and get a 4.0 her first year, it will be tough.
My husband is an engineer and many of his coworkers went to A&M and think very highly of it. While I think these ranking lists are silly, US News and World Report ranks UT as #11 and A&M as #15, so it’s not like it’s a bad program.
If she wants to be an engineer and she’s certain of that, go for A&M. As an aside, our neighbor has a son who is whole life thought he would go to UT McCombs. He didn’t get in. It was very hard on him. But he picked himself up, attended A&M and did a special program there in business with a fifth year that qualified him to be and energy trader. He’s working for BP in Houston now and making big bucks for a 24 year old and is very happy. He loved his time at A&M and his parents say that he can’t imagine having gone anywhere else.
Thank you! I keep telling her she should be so proud that she was accepted to TAMU engineering!
We are a house divided! I have two Aggies and one at UT. Good problem to have! ??? I am sure that if her appeal gets denied, that we will get another Aggie.
A&M without hesitation for engineering. She will be with like minded Science and Math people.
