University of Texas at Austin or McGill???

I know these schools are pretty distant and often not compared. Does anyone have any advice on how to choose my school/what the pros and cons of these schools are?

Also, I will be majoring in engineering. I am at Texas resident with Canadian citizenship so it costs the same to attend both schools.

You are admitted to the major of your choice at both?

Where do you want to work after graduation?

I assume that you have visited Montreal. Do you see the cosmopolitan city as an asset?

UT has better pre-professional opportunities IMO, but is also one of the biggest schools in the nation.

Sorry my first two posts were vague. I was just trying to be as open to suggestions. I have thought about this for long and hard. What it really comes down to is: I love the city of Montreal. It is so beautiful, with so much to do (parks and restaurants and city life) and close to the mountains (I love skiing and would go very frequently). However, I have heard that the studies at McGill are hard and can be very depressing in the winter especially with the cold because unless I am skiing, I am afraid of the cold. I’m afraid to fall into depression bc this past year I have worked so hard to build myself up. Engineering at Mcgill isn’t too well known and from what I’ve heard, has limited intern opportunities. I want a good GPA because I want to go to grad school. I don’t think I would want to live in Austin or Montreal permantly because Austin has no snow and montreal, I would feel uncomfortable living in predominantly French speaking city(Mcgill is mainly english so I don’t mind) University of Texas has a powerhouse engineering program, with one of the biggest expo’s in the US. for engineering. However, it may be hard to land internships since I am considered an international student at UT Austin. Austin is where my parents are so it would be easiest to reach out to them if I stayed in Austin. I’ll know some people at UT already so I know I have some people to rely on day 1 of college. I’m quite a quiet person and it takes me a few months to warm up to people so I know I’ll need a semester before I’ll have maybe a few solid friends. I like Austin but I know it won’t be home forever. Is it time to leave? Also, since I have been in the Texas hs cirriculum, I have enough AP credits to knock off a year at UT Austin. Worth it?

For the same costs, I’d pick UT-Austin.

If you fully intend to stay in the states, go with UT—you can overcome the international issue while attending a US institution, but if you are international AND attending a university in Canada, not so much. The schools will feel about the same otherwise—large and bureaucratic, and while Montreal is more exciting than Austin, Austin is far from boring and the weather is certainly better.
