I have a question about the housing application. Has anyone submitted it prior to their acceptance? My S didn’t realize it was supposed to be done already and I am hesitant to submit it now. He has still not heard anything. Hoping it will be soon! Have been putting off paying for the housing app hoping news would come. It seems to be a waste of money. They do not allow you to select where you want to reside. Only whether you want a single or shared. Out of all the schools my son applied to, and there were quite a few, none had a housing application fee nor did they require an application prior to acceptance.
We went ahead and submitted the housing application as soon as my S’s application was complete back in August. I figured it was worth the $ risk. His application is still in review (his school does not rank, so he can’t be classified as auto-admit as top 7%), but he has already decided that the Visualization program at A&M, which he was accepted into in September, is what he wants to do. I’m still glad we did the housing app, though, just in case. At this point, the on campus housing may be full already, so it might not be worth the risk. That sounds like a great question for your local UT admissions counselor, though!
@Loganator thank you! We are out of state and also still in review. My S called the local rep and she was less than helpful. Seems like a real racket they’ve got going with this housing app fee. Glad your S got into his school of choice
@scout07 @Loganator I submitted mine and I’m not accepted yet. And what money risk? It’s 50 bucks. Considering A&M’s ridiculous 350 dollar deposit, UT’s 50 bucks is nothing.
The non-refundable housing application fee is $50. Housing assignments are made based on application order, so you should apply as soon as possible if you haven’t already. I think $50 is a small investment to hold your place in line while you wait for application decisions and make your final college decision. Once you’ve accepted a housing contract, you will owe an advance payment (deposit) of $300. This amount may be refundable until May 1, depending on the reason you cancel. Also, UT does NOT have guaranteed housing for freshmen but they have been successful in offering space in on-campus housing to all freshman applicants in recent years.
My son received a post card last week from UT Division of Housing that said don’t wait to apply for housing. Does anyone else get one too? His application is still in review. I know it is $50 to hold a housing priority date. But I also agree it is a waste of money if my son were not admitted. We’ll just wait…
Yeah I got into the Liberal Arts Honors program too. 34 ACT (35 superscore), 780 spanish and 760 math ii. Decent EC’s and decent essays but really good recs
fwiw if your child can pick a roommate with a better place in line, he can share that good place. IDK how honors factors in. Not all honors programs have been filled. IDK if there is enough room in the honors dorms for everyone who wants a place.
@invisibleinc I hope so. That’s the last piece of information we need for son to make his final decision. He applied on Aug 4 (to UT, plan II later) so it seems it has been a very long process and he’s ready to be done.
