University of Texas--Austin Admissions

Well my rank is pretty bad. 187/606. I messed up freshman year.

Has anyone been rejected but offered CAP?

@SammySosa‌ I saw one person on here saying that got offered cap(around December). From what Ive heard from the counselor at my school UTSA will not be participating in CAP this year

I’m sorry, but what is Plan II?

I just want to get into Biomedical Engineering :frowning:

Can I send them my first semester grades bc they are really good?

Plan II is simply the dumbest name in America for an Honors College/Program. Despite the name, Plan II is one of the best honors programs in the US. Someday, I hope somebody gives a bunch of money and it gets renamed.

@JHuff11‌ I called on Friday and they said they do not accept senior grades. Stinks because my S had a big boost in his GPA this year.

@scout07‌ totally agree but looking at their college data set it says they don’t place emphasis on GPA but it’s in their holistic review formulas…

I turned in my app in early October. Haven’t heard back… my status keeps saying your application is under review. Anyone else get that message?

@SammySosa‌ Just like the other 50000 applicants :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah same w/me. Applied sometime in October. I’m auto admit but waiting on major. So my application is in review too.

I have to say that as a UT alumnus, I find their whole admissions process slow, impersonal and insulting. Having to wait this long just to get your major, with no correspondence whatsoever, makes me want to send my son and my money elsewhere. He applied the first week of August. He’s an auto-admit, so we’ve known he was in since September, and now we wait and wait and wait for Cockrell to make up their mind. In the mean time he’s being courted by A&M and Purdue. They act like they would actually like for him to attend their school. I am extremely disappointed in my alma mater. They could do better.

@tejasgal absolutely! My D would love to go to Austin as its her only in state school, but the process has been very disappointing compared to other places she has applied (South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama - accepted to all with scholarship offers). It feels like Austin couldn’t care less if she comes or not, not to mention the waiting part of it with no communication.

UT Austin is better than all schools you mentioned so therefore the wait. Sorry for that but as they say … good things make you wait! UT is far above A&M, Purdue, Alabama, South Carolina and Auburn my friends. Just facts. Its just like Harvard would be more selective than Duke! Both great schools but…

@4blessings @tejasgal just curious what the stats are of your students. Mine is still waiting as a non-auto admit who submitted in October.

The whole process is a bit confusing. To me it signals UT is more a collection of schools all cheering for the same athletic teams. Different schools use the same app (more or less) but they each have their own admissions department and run quite differently. Probably works the same way as a student?

That’s what my husband says @TinTintoo‌, but then he’s a bit of a UT snob. Ha ha

I just have to wonder is it really that much better? I personally know engineers from Purdue and A&M and they are doing quite well for themselves. I just think for such a ‘great’ institution, UT could do a better job of making the students feel welcome and disseminating information. I know more about Purdue and A&M than I ever thought I would, and UT is just silent. Makes me feel like their incompetent.

As far as my son’s stats, I think there is probably a chance he won’t be accepted to Cockrell. I’d just like to know, so we can move on and make some decisions if we have to. He is 29 in a class of 495, Eagle Scout, took all the AP courses he possibly could, heavy on Stem, only B was in Sophomore English, Varsity Swim Team all 4 years, volunteer coach for our summer swim team every summer, started the Chemistry Club at his High School and is President, NHS, over 200 hours of community service, and he lifeguards and has another job at a local kennel. His big issue is that his Sat is low for Cockrell, 1880. He did very well on the Math and very poor on the Reading. Took it 3 times with no change.

Anyway, his heart is set on UT because his father and I met there, and we’ve brainwashed him his whole life. I just felt like I had to chime in and vent, because the only place I’ve received any information about UT from is this board.

Waiting w/o knowing the date is painful.

@tejasgal‌ I wholeheartedly agree. UT is the only school out of 14 that hasn’t given me a date of when I can expect my decision. I applied three months ago, as well as two honors programs, and haven’t heard anything. It’s very disconcerting.
