University of Texas @ Austin Class of 2025 After you've been accepted....Q&A

I sent you a private message

No problem! My son will also be at Callaway :-).

Oh good. Does he have roommates yet?

@100lbdog and @maya77 my son is trying to stay at Calloway too. He has 1 roommate - I think, but requested the 4 bdrm. Do yā€™all know how the roommate finder works there. Also, @100lbdog i sent you an email too. Thx!

not sure yet if he has one or allā€¦

Just asked my daughter about roundup and she said it isnā€™t definite whether or not itā€™s on this year so donā€™t count on it for sure. If it happens it will be a huge covid spreader event so if anyone isnā€™t vaccinated I wouldnā€™t send my kid for or to that anyway.

@srparent15 do you mind PM me. I canā€™t PM you b/c Iā€™m a new member and donā€™t have the ability (I came to find out) until I post over 15 messages. I have a question for you. Thanks!

Itā€™s official----the UT orientation website says all orientations will be online this summerā€¦

Well - shoot re: orientation! Does anyone know when the Fall 2021 semester starts?

First day of class appears to be August 25th. Here is the calendar with other dates also:

UT Reddit posters are talking about scholarship pkgs being listed in their portals today. Are these also released in waves? Or is today a ā€œyou are doneā€ if you didnā€™t get something in your portal type of situation?

For those with daughterā€™s who rush, thatā€™s about 10 days earlier and the private dorms allow you to move in early for a fee of course, but no food. Not sure what University dorms do.

Iā€™m sorry if this has already been covered - do freshmen generally bring a car if from OOS?

Nope and parking is really expensive. You donā€™t need a car on campus as itā€™s completely enclosed so you just walk everywhere. WHen kids go out they just take an uber.

Also, as my kids are learning, kids with cars are often the ones dumped on and expected to drive everywhere. My daughter at Cornell just went with a group of girls to Syracuse to get the vaccine. The girl that drove, drove a 2000 mini van to the site. THere was a cost for parking. My daughter was the only one that gave her $ for gas and parking. I donā€™t get it. I always tell my kids to pitch in a few dollars because who ever is driving is saving them from an uber, etc. even if the parent is paying and in this case I know the parent is not, which is why this girl is driving a 20+ year old car. To all parents, please teach your kids to pitch in for things like gas, and to learn how to tip people when they go away to college!

Wow that is crazy! My S21 gets a ride from a friend to practices and he always gives him money for gas.

Right? It used to really annoy me in high school when my kids were always the driver and not once did anyone ever offer to chip in for gas. My kids didnā€™t have to pay for gas, but I did. Their excuse (my kids) was always it was a sunk cost because they were driving by those houses anyway. True, but thatā€™s not the point. It was always my kids driving and certain kids NEVER drove and had access to a car, so it wasnā€™t that. Of course, I think some of it now that I think back was the designated driver thing, but regardless it just pissed me off.

I need a fraternity/sorority update.
I hear frats taking people out, meeting people. Now I see girls do stuff 10 days early, what is the deal for guys? This isnā€™t like this at schools out here like Penn State or Ohio State. Rush is when you get to campus. Is frat rush earlier before school starts? If I go to UT going to live at Callaway.

Not sure how the frat stuff works but sorority rush begins about 10 days before schools starts so that itā€™s over before class begins. It usually is Monday-Monday so move in is on Saturday at Callaway for those girls and they need special permission to move in. People canā€™t just move in early because they feel like it.

Actually hereā€™s info on sorority stuff for this year confirming what I said Monday-Monday. http://texaspanhellenic.com/

Hereā€™s something about menā€™s stuff not sure itā€™s helpful or not https://texasifc.com/

thx,

Do kids in the UT dorms use mattress toppers? They are all the ā€œnecessityā€ rage at Texas A&M so Iā€™m guessing they are at UT also?
