University of the Arts in Philadelphia

Hi, I am a parent of a student to start college this fall. Any other U of A parents out there? Any other parents have students going to school for animation?

Hey Jmom! My D went to RCAD in Sarasota for CA. Don’t know what type of questions you may have. No help at all on U of A–but may be able to help on other concerns. Exciting!

I know two kids that attended. One is still there and the other transferred after two years.

Post on the Visual Arts forum–you may get more responses.

My S is a student there now. He’s in illustration.

My D went there in 2006 so I don’t want to say too much as I am sure it has changed.

I can say that she needed to buy supplies almost daily so you need to set up some way for her to pay for things and not have a lot of cash on her.

I made the mistake of giving her my debit card. Well, by the time I got my bank statement I was in shock. She was taking 20$ out at a time and she managed a few hundred bucks in fees the first month!

She lived in a dorm on Spruce St. We made her a custom screen for her window. You are welcome to it if she needs one.

Good luck. I was impressed with some of the work coming out of there.

My kid didn’t finish but had medical issues.

I think it’s a great school, very expensive and a great opportunity.

There is no reason to be overly concerned with safety but some street smarts are needed.
