University of Toronto Acceptance Chance

Hello,
I’m an American-Canadian student who is from Chicago and I applied for the UofT Engieering program track one. I am really nervous and hope that I get in, but looking at my gpa, grades, and ACT, I am questioning myself.

ACT: 27
GPA: 3.19
Grades: A’s and B’s… Junior year had downhill grades for C and D’s… Stress and family issues. Senior year grades have gone up, all A’s and 2 B’s so far!
Courses: Engineering courses (PLTW), computer graphics 1 and 2, currently in precalc, taken physics, chemistry and biology, 2 AP classes junior year; AP Computer Science, AP Govt and Politics, regular English classes, Spanish 1-3
Extra-curricular- 4 leadership programs and clubs; all with leader position instead of member, volunteering at Feed my starving children, summer camp leader for Hindu community, volunteer assistant at children’s museum…

Please look over and tell me if my standings are good enough to be accepted into UofT engineering…

Awards: 1st and 3rd place state piano contest, civil service honor award, presidential award, leadership recognition in community…

Colleges like to see you preforming well in the areas you are applying to…your class selection shows motivation. As long as you emphazied your “stress and family issues” in your app then you have a semi-decent chance. Given your lack of advanced math classes, however, it does decrease your chances. Most students in engineering are mathmatically inclined. I place your chances around 55-60%.

I wouldn’t hold DNS’s advice to high regard… Canadian Universities tend to look at two things: Test scores and GPA. With your stats, I’d recommend applying to more American universities, as they generally are far more holistic.
