Is the waitlist here same as being admitted to an alternate program?
The decision is waitlisted for CS, but admitted for Physical and Environmental sciences, which was NOT an alternate major we selected. They selected it for us!
I read from the UofT website that they might have done it like that as the transcript we submitted reflected more strength on subjects related to the alternative subject rather than CS. CMIIW.
Environmental sciences, not even close!!! My daughter had nothing to do with environmental sciences even remotely!!
I was admitted to Mathematical and Physical Sciences (first choice was CS). I had near-perfect grades (98-99%) on subjects that are covered on that program (economics, statistics, physics), but not so good on computer science (high 80s to mid 90s). Thatās why I believe that what the website wrote is actually valid in my case.
Okā¦ not in my childās case, had perfect grades in CS and Economics, no subjects even close to Environmental sciences. So was a bit taken aback. Is it just that there is space there and hence they offered?
Maybe yes. By the way, do you fill in the alternate admission form?
At UTSC, Physical and Environmental Science is the closest program to Computer and Mathematical Science. The only other science program is Biological Science.
Son (international from outside of North America) was accepted at Mississauga Campus for CS. He was also accepted to Faculty of Math & Physical Sciences at St George Campus. But his first choice is CS. Any idea whether pros and cons of Mississauga campus from CS perspective ?
Iām a U of T alum as are dh and ds. S23 is likely headed there as well (to UTSG Math and Physical Sciences). We all did our studies at St George. Thereās a large percentage of commuters at both campuses, but a very large percentage at St. George live within walking distance.
For CS at UTM, Iād recommend contacting MCSS. Their email is on this page: https://sop.utoronto.ca/group/utm-academic-soc-mathematical-and-computational-sciences-society-mcss/
For UTSG, check out the majors of interest here: https://artsci.calendar.utoronto.ca/search-programs Pay close attention to the requirements to declare the major or specialist. Some will have minimum grades in prerequisite courses. Some students who didnāt get into CS might want to get into CS or data science from outside the CS admission stream. Itās possible, but will require a 90+% average in certain courses. Course averages at U of T tend to be around 75% (B), so people with 90% are around the top 5% or so.
I still havenāt gotten a decision yet - my portal says āApplication under reviewā. What does this mean?
uoft comp engineering admit, 105 student
Deadline for accepting UofToronto CS is 5th May. What happens if someone (105 international applicant) accepts an offer at UofToronto by paying CAD 1000 and later gets accepted at Waterloo, will this CAD 1000 go wasre if he or she declines the UofT offer for Waterloo offer ??
As far as I know you would lose the deposit, but are still able to commit to the other school if you decide.
can you explain how one applies to UofT, and then to trinity? I thought you first had to apply to the Uni, then once accepted you apply to the college. My daughter will be applying next year, thanks.
So this was months ago so excuse me if my memoryās a little hazy. Basically, you do apply first to the university through the OUAC system. Then they send you an email so you can access the universityās own application portal. Hereās when you would apply to a college within the university (before admission decisions are out) and for other things like housing.
I applied to Trinity, which needed an applicant profile with a bunch of questions they ask you and you fill out (kind of like an US supplement). For reference, hereās the website explaining what the applicant profile is: Applicant Profile - Trinity College. Not all colleges require one ā Iām not actually sure if any others actually do. Anyway, when my decision letter was sent out, it notified me of my acceptance to the university and to the college.
Feel free to reach out if I can help with any other questions.
US student, Canadian applied to physical & mathematical sciences and life sciences as well for fall 2024. Science prereqs all in honors not AP, AP Cal in progress, AP Eng/5. SAT 750 Math, 780 Eng. Current GPA UW 3.94/4.0. Does she have a good chance to be admitted? Thanks!
I donāt know about the honors level prereqs vs APs, but I do think they will like that SAT score. I would suggest that she contact admissions to ask about the courses she took and whether they consider these prereqs to be sufficient. My son found that admissions was very helpful last year in explaining how to match his high school courses with their requirements. He ended up being admitted with a scholarship, but I donāt know how comparable that is to your studentās situation, as it was for a different program.
U of T updated the middle 50% data on the U.S. Admissions page this year:
Middle 50% data for admitted students from U.S. high schools:
- 50% of admitted students submitted an SAT or ACT result
- The SAT score range for the middle 50% of admitted students was 1430-1540
- For the ACT, 32-35 is the range
- For CGPA: 3.7 to 4.0
