Hi,
I am currently deciding between University of Toronto and NYU CAS and I was just wondering how much going to the University of Toronto will affect my job search in the U.S. If anyone can provide any incite on this subject I would greatly appreciate it.
For some reference points at NYU i would like to major in Econ and Minor in Computer Science, and at University of Toronto i would probably be getting a double major for the two, or a Computer Science Major with Econ Minor and another secondary minor. Additionally would either choice really affect my chances of going to an elite grad school later on.
I also have interest in pursuing a career in the field of medicine so I am also wondering which school would put me in an advantage to get into a respected medical school.
I am a Canadian Citizen so I understand financially this would be a very easy decision, however; I would like to see which would be the better choice money aside.
Thanks in advance.
A “respected medical school” in which country? The odds of an int’l getting accepted to a U.S. med school are poor, so if you really want medicine, I’d say U of T, plus you’re saving a pile of cash for med school.
If you want grad studies in econ or CS then find work in the U.S., you’d probably be better off with a higher GPA and pursuing the best program in the U.S. that you can find, to attract employers, so I’d say NYU, as the U of T can really blight your GPA if you’re not careful.
It’s hard to put money aside, though, unless you come from wealth. If you’d be saving $100K+ in Canada, that goes a long way to paying for grad school and getting off to a better start in terms of debt/peace of mind/freedom.
The U of T computer science major has competitive admissions. You have to apply to the major after your second or third year. You are not guaranteed admission, even if you were admitted under computer science.
For a Canadian, Toronto makes a ton more sense.
