Hello guys, I am an international students currently studying in Malaysia. I am planning on applying to University of Toronto, New York University, Babson college, UCLA and UCB in my senior year for their finance / econ majors. Do you know which school is more well-known in their finance/econ undergraduate program? And if I study in Toronto (let’s say Toronto university), will I have a difficult time finding a job in Canada/the U.S.? Thank you :))
Your prospects on getting a job will depend much more on your citizenship and whether you can get a work visa than where you go to school.
Yes, that’s definitely right. But does America have much more job opportunities than Canada?
Babson focuses mainly on finance and related majors so it is excellent in the field and highly ranked
Does its entrepreneurship rank the 1st, not its finance?
Yes.
If you were to get into a US university, you would be considered a guest/student; when you graduate it is expected that you return to your country. Immigration rules are strict in the US. A US employer would have to tell the government that there were no available US citizens to fill the position. Employers would also have to be willing to pay sponsorship fees.
Finance is a very popular major and US employers will not sponsor a non citizen when so many capable and eligible US citizens are graduating with that major AND US immigration laws prohibit it.
Coming to the US as a student does not presume that you will be immigrated and immediately become a resident.
I’m a student at UofToronto right now. I know that our Rotman program is quite well-known in Canada’s job markets, however if you do decide to go for Ontario schools, York University’s Schulich school has the best commerce program. UofToronto’s Rotman is quite theory-based and passive lecture, less hands-on learning experience. Also, the drop-out rate is super high due to UofT’s super academic-challenging and grade deflation. Again though, if you do decide to go to Canada then it’s quite easy to land jobs and internships (paid and unpaid) as international student at an early stage
If you can, I would definitely recommend going to NYU Stern or UC Berkeley Haas. Both are high ranked business schools in the United States, but both are also difficult to get into.
Canada’s immigration laws are a lot friendlier than the US, I’d check into that first.
