Sooo - how do we tell Fin Aid? Or from what I read it looks like its not available yet? Congrats @newenglandjane

Probably won’t be attending, but I’m excited to know I got into my 9th grade dream school! Congrats to everyone else.

My son was accepted, but the FA is not available even though we got the email earlier this week.
Has any newly admitted been able to see the FA?
We are not able to access FA for my son.
FA will be released in early March.
My son got admitted EA in December and Merit aid came about a week later but FA nor til Feb 9.
I got accepted to the rubenstein school of environment and natural resources!

Accepted!!! So excited and hope everyone else is happy with results!!
@lifeofsoup Would you like to add one more to the chat?
FA is going to matter a ton in this case for us. We live in New England so the price difference between UVM and other state schools feels especially egregious to us.
I got accepted into the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a Public Communication major.
GPA: 3.4 W SAT: 1130
Found out last night…son was accepted for “a Spring 2019 start”?! And they actually had the b*lls to sell it like t was a POSITIVE thing…“Congratulations!, etc.”
So let me get this straight…you WON’T take him for the Fall, but you WILL take him for a “Spring Start”, after some kid that YOU CHOSE BEFORE HIM, either:
A.) FAILS out, or
B) hates UVM, and decides to TRANSFER out, or
C) gets hooked on heroin, and wanders off into the Green Mountains.
Gee, that sounds tempting! But we’ll pass, thanks just the same. He as plenty of other acceptances to chose from, they can take a walk. We won’t even be replying.
@Monty Burns Spring acceptance for fall applicants is common at many colleges, including Cornell University. You are not obligated to attend, you can choose to enroll at another college in the fall.
@Monty Burns also they might come back in april and give him a fall start…i am sure the feeling of non acceptance sucks:( i am glad he has other offers. good luck to him
I don’t know that it’s “common”. UVM and other schools might choose to do it, but so what? Who in their right mind would accept that? I’d like my son to have normal college experience. Starting in the spring is FAR from normal, whether it’s at UVM, Cornell, or the anywhere else. What percentage of the Class of 2022 at UVM is signed up for a “Spring Start”?! If it’s even two percent, I’d be shocked. I wouldn’t wish a “7/8’s acceptance” on my worst enemy.
“We don’t think you’re that great, but after some kid that we admitted ahead of you tanks out, and our decision to accept that kid ahead of you is proven wrong, and we’re looking to keep the books balanced, we’ll let you take their place.” Lovely. So honored…
@Monty Burns Students who really wanted to attend UVM would consider the offer. Those using UVM as a safety or an afterthought would not consider it.
Middlebury also has a Spring admission. It’s a better option than being rejected.
@TomSrOfBoston “Students who really wanted to attend UVM would consider the offer”…
No, actually UVM is one of his top three choices. He “really wants to go there”. He toured it, spoke with the track coach, etc. It’s not his “safety”. It’s not a question of whether or not he “wants to go there.” It’s a question of the first semester. What’s he supposed to do? Go to some podunk JuCo? And then he starts in January, after all the friendships have already been established, etc. He’d be the red-headed stepchild. Other people might be honored to have their kid thrown some scraps like that, but I just can’t get that excited about a deal like that. It’s probably my bad attitude.
We’ll see what the other top two schools have to say. Even if those other two top choices reject him outright, I’d advise him to go to one of the schools that’s accepted him for the Fall. Why turn your life upside down, for an organization that’s already given you the brush-off? It’s ultimately up to him.
@Monty_Burns I’m sorry your son was deferred to spring. The initial feeling is one of rejection, but as others have mentioned, it’s not all negative. It all depends on how badly he wants it. A couple of years ago two students in my town were deferred at their first choices–our public high school is very competitive and the pool of high achievers applying to some of the same schools means they just won’t all get accepted. Both of these students took the deferral option to end up where they wanted. They stayed home and worked in the fall, started in the spring, and they both thrived. Kids are much more resilient than we think.
