My only B so far was in AP World History but I think I will also get B’s in AP Calc and AP Physics C this year. I heard that UW puts a pretty heavy weight on physics and math classes, so if I get B’s in math and physics this year, will my chances of getting directly admitted to UW’s CS program be substantially lowered? Or do I still have a good chance of getting directly admitted?
Does that mean you will have to update Admissions with the less than good news about the math and physics before decisions come out?
Yes, I think so. My GPA after these B’s would be 3.938 (unweighted).
They’ve seen B’s before, but why did you let that happen?
@JustOneDad Calc is just a really difficult class, and for physics I had a fluke on the last exam so I’ll can only get around an 89.something percent in the class if I do really well on the next exam. My physics teacher doesn’t round grades.
@JustOneDad So apparently UW doesn’t require mid-year reports, but they do ask for final transcripts after students have been admitted.
From what I’ve heard, direct admits for Computer Science are kind of a crapshoot and you’ll just have to hope for the best. I think having some programming-related extracurriculars would help, but your stats seem fine. And the B’s won’t impact your application as the UW doesn’t take midyear reports into consideration.
I would ask @speedsolver for more information–he was a DA and probably knows more about the process.
Best of luck!
