Im currently a junior in High School at a VERY competitive well known school in Illinois.
I have a 3.7 weighted gpa and a 3.4 unweighted
I got a composite score of 30 on my ACT 29E 31M 31R 28S and a 9 on writing
I’m currently in 1 AP class, but plan on taking about 4 more next year
Im a A-B student
I dealt with depression and anxiety during my sophomore year
I have been on the honor roll every year in high school
I founded and am president of the animal welfare club at my school. Im a student ambassador for the school and a peer helper, kind of like a one on one mentor. Im a studio helper in the after school photo studio and was a glass leader for 3 years for give a thin (a giant donation event in Dec). I have 300+ community service hours. I have interned at a political organization in my town and at the local vets office.
I’m Jewish (don’t really know if that helps)
I have talked to the admissions counselor at the UW a couple times and I am meeting with her one on one during my visit this spring break.
Also, because this is my dream school and if I get in I will 100% go, should I say that or somehow make that apparent to the admissions counselor when I meet with her?
Your GPA is a bit lower than the admitted freshmen average (3.64-3.93) but your ACT score is at the higher end of the average range (Composite 25-31). Your EC’s are definitely impressive and it seems like you have a good story to tell on your personal statement. I’d say you have a decent/strong chance—just work on your personal statement.
About the last question…I personally feel that it’s unnecessary.
You mentioned that you’ve spoken to the admissions counselors several times already and now you’re meeting with one (and you’re out of state)—it is very clear that you are highly interested. Then again, this is just my opinion so if you feel obligated to do that, then why not? I’m not sure what happens during a meeting with an admissions counselor, but I doubt it’s like a college interview, so you probably won’t be judged based on expressing your interest.
My dream school is also UWS. I have lower ACT than sb, but higher GPA. I think I also have various extracurricular activities. ( both leadership and volunteer experience) btw, How do you find the information of school counselor? And could u please tell me what need to be emphasize when talking to them?
Despite the fact that the UW has been admitting more out of state students to make up for loss of funding, the bar is quite a bit higher for them. That makes you less competitive than in-state students with a 3.4 and only 1 AP junior class.
Your chances are probably down at 30% or less. Students with your stats do get in, but it’s going to hinge on the overall picture you present.
