Ithaca is gorges but I was so scared off during my visit that I declined Cornell to go to go to a school where the whether is tropical. Like Michigan.
Hahahaha. That’s fair! It’s all relative.
I’ve been told to check out the U Village as well! We have such a short visit. Friday night to Sunday morning so might just focus on the campus and the immediate walkable area.
But I agree that bad weather might be a good thing so that he can see the reality and how everyone handles it. (So, actually, should we bring rain coats or umbrellas? We’ve never been to Seattle before.
which are the best hotels near the campus? we are going on April 1… so will miss the big day but will get to see the campus
This will be our first time to Seattle. We booked a hotel near campus but I was told that it’s also convenient to stay near the airport and take the train to campus during the day.
Stay near the school to get a better vibe. Also easy access to other parts of Seattle for you to check out. Staying near the airport will be boring.
University Inn a Pineapple Hotel is where we stayed. Was cute and incredibly convenient to walk to campus and local student strip of University Ave
thank you!
That is short enough that I could see you wanting to stick close to school to absorb as much of the atmosphere as possible.
As I recall, people wear it as a badge of honor to not use umbrellas. A raincoat will help you blend in better. Actually, it might be more that umbrellas can collide with other umbrellas so the locals avoid such entanglements when it’s raining.
Last time we stayed at the Residence Inn in the U District since it has a full kitchen and free breakfast and gated parking, but the StayPineapple hotels get good ratings too. I would definitely try to stay close to the school vs the airport since you’re trying to get a feel for the area.
Today is the first day in the Honors college decision release window. Has anyone heard?
Near campus is a much better option. Train would eat up 45 mins each way. Hotels near the udub include the Graduate, residence inn, college inn, university inn, Watertown and silver cloud.
Places to eat include Shultzy’s on the Ave (30+ years) and Mikes Chili in Ballard (100 years old, famous from Diners, drive ins and dives on food network), Dicks Dive in on 45th.
Only tourists use umbrellas. Waterproof hooded shell is what you need.
Could anyone who applied to UW for computer science share their stats and ec’s?
In-state, 4.0, 1590, NMF, 11 APS, Jazz Band, 2 sports, NHS, Ski Bus (created and ran it with 3 others all 4 yrs), snowboard instructor, robotics
D22 OOS admitted pre-science, received P&G scholarship. We toured UW yesterday. Happy it was rainy & cold so D got a taste of weather.
I suggest waterproof jackets and shoes or dry socks to change into. Public transit to UW was easy - the 1 line has a stop by Husky stadium & a stop in U District by the main bookstore. It’s about 45 min to airport. I recommend checking out U district and U village if you have time. Official tour was very informative.
What was the campus vibe?
Is anyone else internationally located (i.e.,outside the US now)? If so, have you received your info packet yet? Not sure if they mail it regular mail or UPS for international addresses.
Can you please share what schools gave your daughter a more warm welcome? The ones you felt had more of a fun and supportive vibe? Looking for a similar experience for my D23.
We are just back. My son liked the vibe. Seems to be down to earth kids interested in their studies but definitely with time for fun and activities. Very outdoorsy. Very progressive politically and lots of non-establishment kids and queer kids compared to other state schools (huge pluses for my kid). This is all based on a 2 day visit - so take with large grain of salt of course. We are oos and don’t even know anyone who has gone there… A really lovely campus in a cool interesting neighborhood in a cool interesting city!
Are you OOS and got $29K in merit aid? I thought P&G was capped $10K per year.
