I didn’t realize the UW has a great philosophy department. That’s great to hear. My son wants to study Physics and philosophy. He was admitted pre-sciences.
Yes! Check out the website. My D took Phil 102 last summer and loved it.
@UWGradfromLongAgo lmk if you have questions how UCLA does it.
Thanks!! I will have him do so!
Just found this website! So sorry I didn’t find it sooner. Such a wealth of information! My daughter was accepted (OOS) with no mention of P&G award. Does this mean P&G is not being offered?? We have yet to receive anything in the mail.
My son is in the same situation. I think that it does mean no P&G. Others said they learned though the portal.
Bummers! Hopefully we are wrong and good news is coming!
Yes, could you please explain if there is a competitive majors process for natural science majors at UCLA and how it works?
Are all UW transfer decisions released?
D22 notified today that she has been accepted to the Honors College — that was crucial for her to consider attendance. Received Honor’s Achievement award of $14,200 per year but only for two years, not four (strange). Letter said 5,800 applicants for 225 spots.
Unsure if her four-year Purple and Gold merit stacks with this.
Congrats!! Was that an email or a physical letter?
Congratulations to your D! And that’s a terrific award to receive - hope it stacks with Purple and Gold, that would make a nice dent!
My kid also got into the Honors College (notified by email) but no additional award. I’m looking forward to this Saturday’s admitted student day.
Thank you! D got an email - not a letter. Will update if it is stackable.
We visited fairly recently and are not planning to attend admitted students day. I’ll be anxious to hear everyone’s impressions. The campus is absolutely stunning — will there be cherry blossoms? Hoping to hear more about vibe. D is very academic but does not want cutthroat vibe.
i got honors but no sign of scholarship – where did your daughter see that? was it on the email?
@Southoftheriver — Congrats!! Your DD has some very awesome choices and has managed to distinguish herself among a lot of accomplished peers — so happy for her!
Do I recall correctly— your daughter is considering a major in a liberal arts area? If so, I think that is a lot less cut-throat at UW than other areas. But even so, I think it would be difficult to turn down the special benefits of Stamps!
And I am guessing she has other great options, too.
Does she like the large size and urban setting of UW relative to other choices?
Thank you for your kind words — you are always so supportive! Yes, she really likes the big city urban vibe of UW and the chill factor of the PNW. There is no doubt though that the UO Stamps is hard to beat. She is still waiting for some decisions - seems crazy that this will be wrapping up soon!
What about your D? Is she any closer to a decision?
Edit - she is political science/public policy
Yes, an email today. She had not gotten anything about honors so she assumed she didn’t get in! This was a huge surprise, with a very kind letter notifying her she was selected for honors and receiving the scholarship. In looking at their website it appears it takes the tuition down to the in-state amount.
For political science, I would think UW would not be too cut-throat because it is not capacity constrained.
I have been interested in your journey because it seemed that our daughters had a lot of overlap in their West Coast searches.
We had high hopes for UW because it is in-state for us, but my daughter didn’t get direct admit to the business school and isn’t too excited about the process for getting into her major as a sophomore. Also, UW is a little too big city urban for her liking. (She did get direct admit to her major at UO and that was a plus.)
She is waiting for all acceptances before making her final, final decision, but is leaning toward a surprise late contender. She recently started to fall in love with the last school she visited and the first to accept her the first week of October: Oregon State! She’s had good interactions with faculty, staff, and other Honors College admittees there, so we shall see.
We are going to the Admitted Student day and are ridiculously excited! We fly out on Friday. Never been to Seattle before and have been reading a lot of tourist websites and the UW website. This was one of S22’s dream schools. We’ll have to see what he really thinks of big cities. Might be that they seem better on TV and in his imagination. Or maybe it will live up to his wildest expectations. Will report back afterwards!
Congratulations to your daughter and all of her fantastic options! She’s clearly proven herself.
i got no scholarship but even with any scholarship (short of a full ride lol) it would have been too expensive for me. congrats to your daughter !! political science majors unite
