how do you do the transcript thing?
Ok so judging by my unofficial transcript, I have been admitted to Foster Business School. Does anyone think it would be possible for me to switch in to Computer Science direct admit major (if I’m qualified enough to be accepted)? I’m contemplating whether or not I should send this email to UW admissions hahaha
@Respira Nope, I logged into the UWNet and typed in “university of Washington login” on google and accessed my page when I clicked on the first link, which told me I was accepted for the fall of 2015. You have to click on the admissions link.
@JunSin probably. Foster’s is extremely competitive- the most competitive major on campus- and I am sure they’d be fine letting you out so someone else could get in.
Wait, obviously they would let me get out of Foster’s. but the question is… will I be able to switch into CS. :-B
@GabiWasabi
@JunSin maybe if you contacted them ASAP since they are still making decisions. CS has more DA spots than Fosters.
@GabiWasabi Alright where, I just sent UW admissions an email, crossing my fingers. Do you know what the number of DA spots are for Foster and CS, respectively?
@junsin I think maybe you should ask @speedsolver on this one (maybe in the CS thread?), he’s a CS DA from a couple years ago and has been super helpful answering these kinds of questions in the past. While CS DA may have more spots I’m pretty sure more people apply so I think it’s more competitive than Foster’s – not 100% sure though.
@speedsolver ^ By chance, do you have any insight to my current dilemma of wanting to be “switched” into CS DA?
@JunSin highly unlikely. Stick with business and double major with computer science.
@JunSin It’s likely too late to switch into CS direct admit, even if you got into Foster. I’m not sure about recent numbers, but when I was a freshman (2010), there were ~35 CSE direct admits (~70 admitted of over 1400 direct admit applicants) and over 100 Foster direct admits. I believe both graduating class sizes have increased in the past few years, but I don’t know how that affects the direct admit class.
For example, my graduating year had ~160 CSE bachelors, but in about two years, there will be ~300 CSE bachelors graduating together.
@Loganmr97 But it doesn’t hurt to ask admissions right? I mean, If Im unable to be DA to CS, ill apply to CS for regular admission. I’ve kind of decided that for undergrad I want to major in CS and for graduates, work for an MBA. Prospective plan for now.
@JunSin doesn’t hurt to ask.
weird path to go down. It’s make more sense to double major or get a degree in bus with a minor in comp sci. You need a business degree to get mba I think?
plus double major may just be too much work, considering that I want to be very involved in EC activities!
hmmmm @Loganmr97 I’ll definitely look more into double major and try to exact what I want to do in college, because, quite frankly, I’m pretty ignorant about how everything works… haha!
Ah, I really hope I’m not too late to be considered for CS DA.
@JunSin double majors aren’t more work, they just require a tiny bit more college sometimes. You just work with your academic advisor to see which classes will give you credit for both degrees
OOS:
3.8 unweighted GPA
2 AP’s
College classes during Senior year
1700 GPA
From what I’ve observed my stats are on the lower end for getting admitted
OOS:
3.8 or 3.9 UW (school doesn’t calculate)
2310 SAT
some high SAT II scores, a fair number of EC’s, etc.
Washington resident: 3.9 GPA, 2040 SAT, 34 ACT, 11 AP classes. Direct Freshman Admit into the Electrical Engineering program. Decided just a few days ago to go here over UCSD and UCLA. Just too expensive in the end, and this school is still a good starting point for me.
