University of Washington vs Georgia Tech CS

As the title states, I’ve been admitted to both schools and not really sure which one to go to (I’m not a direct CS admit at UW but pretty confident I would be able to transfer in after). I am currently going for computer science but also considering switching to pre-med/biomedical engineering with the intent of going to med school though (not a for sure possibility but not a terribly unlikely one either).

I am very concerned with entrepreneurship and getting great internship opportunities during the summer. Georgia Tech seems to be in a worse area for those, but also has lots of recruiters from big companies coming anyways I’ve heard so not sure which school has the edge there (though I like the city of Seattle more). Both colleges have shown growth in the rankings and Georgia Tech is itself more selective (22% admit rate this year) which makes me lean towards them but also don’t want to get caught up in the whole selectivity = job prospects craze because UW is of course close to a lot of large companies.

Social aspects of schools also concern me but not sure how to really measure that. Looking for a very collaborative environment though with a strong entrepreneurial scene.

If anyone can help share some light on both schools and help me decide which one I should go to that would be fantastic. Thanks!

GT gives you one free change of major after enrolling: http://admission.gatech.edu/change-major

Washington admission to CS is highly competitive if you are not direct admit to the CS major:

This is the first year of Washington Direct to College of Engineering frosh admission. This means that students who entered under Direct to College of Engineering have priority over others in declaring engineering majors. If you are not admitted Direct to College of Engineering, expect it to be very difficult to get into an engineering major at Washington.

Unless there is a large price difference in favor of Washington, GT is the obvious choice in terms of being able to do the major you want.

GTech is in the exclusive list of schools where top companies go to for recruiting. Getting an internship will not be an issue. Having said that, both are great schools. And if you are going to pay in-state for Washington, then it isn’t a bad choice.
