University of Washington vs Simon Fraser University for biology (animal/vet)

Which university for preparing for post graduate for vet (biology)? I could take the biology major at fast 2nd year of both universities. What are the experiences of two schools? Anyone’s opinion on these two?

I am not super familiar with Simon Fraser but if you are Canadian, does that mean you’d be looking for vet schools in Canada? If so, Simon Fraser might be a better bet and might have better alignment with requirements for Canadian vet schools.

Otherwise, UW has a fine biology program. It is the #1 or #2 most popular major at the university. I think the research taking place at UW tends to be more human-focused as they do not have a vet program or zoology, etc. But marine biology is offered (I think as a minor?) and being surrounded by water and grant money is a good thing.

Washington State University in Pullman has the closest vet school in the US, plus there are two other programs in California, so UW might do a better job in preparing you for those programs. Plus I know UW students are recruited by graduate health sciences programs throughout the year.

Good luck!

Both are large universities in the Pacific Northwest, both are located in cool cities.
Look at the requirements for your major and the gen ed requirements, and of course price difference may be a tie breaker.

Also, how do I tell if I register Ap tests before. By the application? Or ask the office by mail? And will AP tests scores use as the credits for the second years?

After you’ve enrolled, your guidance counselor will submit a final transcript. If s/he includes test scores in the transcript, previous AP scores will figure in it already. When your AP scores for 2015 are released, you can send them to the university and ask for credits. You have to know precisely what the gen eds are. Be aware that many AP courses count for admission (“rigor”) but only for elective credit rather than major credit (skipping ahead in gen eds, such as English and Math, but serving as placement only in other subjects, for instance. You can’t use them for med school, oftentimes, and you may have to take some gen eds nevertheless. The more selective the university, the less Ap you get.)

So in conclusion, the AP credits could not always function as the requirements for the majors that need requirement(s). Lastly, will the Senior Transcript (Final Grades) affect my placement in picking major (For me, I want biology major)?

Ask the school…

Seriously, I have a C in AP calculus AB and average of 88 in first three quarter. I am afraid that I might have disadvantage or even receive rescind letter. I do not want to take the risk of asking the admission. I am really in a sticky situation.

Advising123 mentioned it, but WSU would have been the place to prepare for Vet School.

The rule is no D, no F as final grades, no cheating, no arrests. So you’re fine

Thanks. Also, what if my school counselor tell me that she will give me the final transcript, which means, only the reports, and no other behaviors are going to indicate on the transcript. So, it is fine to just give the admission my reports? (What is cheating and arrest in this case? Is cheating means discrepancy in final report? Just asking)

Cheating means you stupidly cheat on a test (copy someone’s answers, bring a cheat note, etc) - stupidly because now it doesn’t matter, as long as you get a C, so why risk it all? Arrest/Crime means that: you get arrested for dealing drugs or beating on another student on sexual assault or entering the premises with a weapon.
In short, colleges say “don’t do anything stupid now that you got in”…

Thanks. On the other hand, my school counselor will only submit the grade (papers). So that means I do not need to send anything additional if I want to enroll in the university?

no
… well, your deposit, housing choices, proof of immunization…

And your I-20 application, bank statement that shows you have money for going to college.

Thanks guys! About the immunization, I heard that I have to complete it before I went to university. Right?

Yes but you can do it in school too. Chooose whichever is cheaper

Thanks for the support! Lastly, another major question about AP tests. I was checking my application recipe; however, I could not remember or find whether I promise with UW application I am going to take AP exams in May (Chinese, Calculus AB, U.S Government, Psychology). How do I know if I have sign up the tests? If so, what are the worst consequences of falling the tests? Thanks.

American universities won’t care about your AP exams or scores. You’ll need them if you want to bypass some freshman classes. Worst consequence if you don’t take the tests is that you’ll have to take Chinese, Calculus, Political science, and psychology in college.
Simon Fraser will probably want to see the AP scores. Check with them.

Thanks, also, for the final transcript, when is the ideal time to send it? Since my graduation not until 5/22, and my school counselor possibly not complete it before June. On top of that, I might be gone (just a possible outcome) at that time. Could just tell her the address of UW? Or the final transcript requires my signature or any other certify information such as social security number, passport, or behavior report (my counselor told me that the behavior report will NOT be here, still will UW require it? Or just the grade book report?)?
