I’m applying to the University of Waterloo for SYDE. Its definetly one of the best programs the university has to offer. To calculate my chances I went on a blog by a current professor that describes how they calculate your average. (Basically they add up the scores of five classes that are required by your selected major + one other course with the highest grade that may not necessarilly be related to your major (e.g: history) + your AIF score which ranges from 0.5-5 and is decided by a grader). My average is 91.4% (not including the AIF score). My question is what are my chances of getting into this program? Any relevent facts would help such as the number of seats available and so on.
Prof. Anderson’s blog is your best source of information. According to the following post, your chances are approximately 55%. https://profbillanderson.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2014/10/03/chances-for-2015/
How are your ECs? If they are strong or if you are from a particularly strong school (that regularly sends kids to Waterloo) then you’re in. From the blog that @bouders posted, admission to SYDE is slightly easier than to many of the other programs in its selectivity tier (e.g. Biomedical, Software, Chemical).
Systems has a class size of around 110 I think (but not too sure).
My ECs are relatively strong and my school is quite credible in terms of college acceptances. Hopefully not too many strong canditates applied to SYDE this year because 110 seats doesn’t seem like too much. I can only hope for the best!
You should be fine then. Waterloo looks at your school and AIF and adds an adjustment factor to your average. Good luck!
