University of Winnipeg

Greetings everyone!
I am a high school junior this year beginning to look at college options. I live in Minnesota and, due to reciprocity, could get into a few schools in Manitoba for only a few thousand dollars a year. My favorite is the University of Winnipeg. However, I want to double major in Criminal Justice and Political Science and work for a federal agency (FBI, ATF, Martial Service) and do not know whether Canadian law enforcement is different enough going there would have an impact. I was also wondering how hard it is to get in. I have a 3.2 GPA Unweighted, with several honors and AP courses, but only a couple extra circulars and one D+ in science from ninth grade that I’m hoping won’t cause problems. I was also wondering, only a few of you would know this, if the University of Winnipeg would accept College in Schools credits-a program I’m in in which I take University of Minnesota German at my school for college credit.

As long as the College in Schools credit shows up on your high school transcript, you should be fine. But, I think you might be asking whether you could use German as a transfer credit, not as a high school credit. Is that correct? I would not count on it and I doubt the U of W would give you a straight answer before you enrolled.

The Canadian criminal and political systems are very different from the US systems. If it’s your intention to work in the US when you graduate, then you are probably better off to go to school in the US.

Admission will depend mostly on your ACT or SAT scores. Extracurriculars will not be a factor.
