University of Manitoba

does any one know if this is a good school? i am thinking about going there, i live in minnesota and because of the deal that minnesota and manitoba have i would pay in state tuition and it would be very cheap. how would it compare to goin to the U of MN, i would attend there but i really want to go away for college. If i get accept to the Raikes computer science program at UNL i would probably go there. but over all would it be worth it as in is the school decent? i would most likely go for engineering or something science. any opionions appreciated thanks.

I would recommend U of Minnesota - Twin Cities over the U of Manitoba for every academic field that I can think of. Manitoba is not a bad school - like virtually every Canadian university, its standards are respectable- but in-state tuition at Minnesota will be a much better educational value, imo. Minnesota is strong in several engineering fields, and the university is simply better overall. U of Manitoba is fine for someone who wants to work in Manitoba (and, to a lesser extent, elsewhere in Canada), but you might have difficulties finding employment in the U.S. with a U of Manitoba degree. Only a few Canadian schools (Toronto, McGill and UBC primarily, and Waterloo in math and some sciences) are well known internationally, and U of Manitoba is not one of these schools.

I think they have pretty good actuarial mathematics programs.

Still, I’m not sure why you would want to go there when you could attend UMN or UWisconsin for comparable prices. What are your stats?

my stats at the moment are:

gpa 3.6 unwieghted
act 24- will be retaking
CIS 2 years german classes through the u of minnesota tc with A’s

EC:
captain of hockey team 2 years
captain of lacrosse team 3 years
volunteer work at church and coaching sports at local park
some others cant think of right now but nothing too special

oh suppose i should add, 4 years varsity hockey, 4 years starting club lacrosse (no varsity at high school yet)
