SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
Typically 75 Letters & Science scholarships are awarded to a class of over 3,000 incoming freshmen. Scholarship opportunities are very limited for non-residents. International students are not eligible for incoming freshmen scholarships.
I apologize if this has already been posted. Does anyone know when the Admissions Office is open during the holiday break? I’m wondering if they are open this week or won’t be back until January 6. Thank you in advance.
Hi everyone! Hope you’re enjoying your holidays! It says on the admitted students checklist that they will send out instructions about admitted student days - do we know when that comes out?
i declined my madison spot and the other colleges i’m not planning on going to. haven’t accepted the school i will probably go to yet (depends on how rd goes)
The earlier that you go to orientation the more options scheduled wise you will have.
All the information about orientation is here: https://soar.wisc.edu
Selecting your classes
Check out the FIGS (https://figs.wisc.edu/catalog/). To make easier the registration for first year students, you can sign up for one of the FIGS that consist of 3, 4, or 5 classes that encompass one area of interest. There are some direct admit only FIGS as well (Engineering, Nursing, Business School, etc) The schedule will be set for you. You will be together with the same group of 20-25 students in all those classes.
Housing
Try to find a roommate ASAP and sign up for housing. You will need to pick the dorms in order of preference. The lottery will be sometime in March.
Another option is to leave on a private mainly freshmen dorm like Statesider. It is located next to State St (downtown) and two blocks from campus. (https://www.dwellstudentmadison505.com)
Your new university ID is called WISC Card. The WISC Card also acts as a debit card. You can load money in the card and use it in all the food courts on campus. You can use it to buy anything from the campus store as well.
If you live off campus, you can still use the WISC card to buy food. You can also purchase Red Card. It is similar to the WISC Card but works on a bunch of restaurants and grocery stores in the downtown area. (https://www.redcardmealplan.com)
Football Tickets
Student football tickets will go out to sale at the beginning of the spring. Freshmen will be given a date and time to purchase them. Usually, the tickets are sold within a couple of hours after they go live. If you want tickets, make sure that you create an account at https://uwbadgers.com a few days before trying to purchase the season tickets.
I live in North Carolina and have not gotten a decision yet. for those of you who have gotten them did you get any notifications before and was it at a specific time?
My S received an email (“Your admissions decision is available”) about 1.5 hours after the decision posted in his portal. Decision posted around 7:30 PM CST, and email was sent a little before 9 PM CST. Good luck
I was under the impression that my out-of state son would get a response today, but he looked again at the email he got a couple weeks ago, and it says that the University will NOT be able to get him a decision by the 31st., and they will let him know in early January.
As a Mom, I can’t wait for this application process to be over. I don’t remember it being so stressful when I applied to colleges. And for all of you students, whether your parents recognize it or not, it is truly an impressive feat for you to research schools, write multiple essays and manage all of these applications on top of schoolwork and attempts to enjoy your last year of High School Good luck to you all. There are so many great schools out there so please remember that your happiness will be more of a function of HOW you go to college and not WHERE you go to college.
I’d like to share that I view your generation as a ray of hope in our divided nation. Yes, you are annoyingly glued to your cellphones, but you have so many positive traits that seem lacking in too many of my generation: you are more tolerant of those different from yourselves, you are more collaborative in your approach to problems and activities, you seem less materialistic, and you have a deeper appreciation for the need to address climate change.
Please know that there are a lot of Moms like me who welcome your engagement and development as the leaders of tomorrow. Keep up your optimism!
And I can’t sign off without a little Mom nagging: Have you registerd to vote yet? Why not? When are going to do it? You need to schedule it in your calendar or you will just keep putting it off and then it will be too late. So did you put it in your calendar yet?
