University Owned Apartments

My roommate and I applied for Pitt's University-Owned apartments, specifically the Central Oakland apartments. Does anyone know what these apartments are like or how likely it is that we would get it? Our concern is it says we wouldn't find out whether we'd get it until April, and by then the good off campus apartments would probably be gone.
Thanks in advance for any information!

I think they are very tough to get. DS applied when they started to take application (first day and right when they started to accept the application) and he didn’t get one. They didn’t notify until late in April. I would look for available apartments and if you find a good one, go for it.

I agree with MTnest. The Pitt-owned apartments go very fast. However, I think you can do just as well renting from an outside landlord. Apartments in Pittsburgh are relatively cheap and plentiful! There’s a list of landlords available on Panther Central.

DD found her apartment on Craig’s List.

My daughter rented from Meyers Management in Amberson Gardens, and it was fine. The neighborhood is beautiful, and it is a short bus ride away from campus (about one mile). The other residents seemed to be mostly CMU grad students, and there is an office right there on the property for paying rent and requesting repairs. Her roommate had a car, and the indoor garage was reasonable, from what I remember.

I told her to avoid two things: being on the ground floor, and having a fire escape!
