I'm going to be attending the University Scholars Welcome Event in March (so excited!!), and in an email I got after registering for the event, it mentioned to upload a picture of myself. Does anyone out there know what this picture is for?

Hmm… They may use it to send to your host student so that you can find each other when you check in. That was sometimes a problem last year. It took me forever to find the student I was hosting.

To withdraw the scholarship if you are ugly?

Last year they used the pictures in a slide show that included the students name and home town. It played at the welcome event and at the dinner. It just makes you feel more personally welcomed and was a nice touch.

I still think my idea would be a good one…

I thought the Scholars day is on Feb. 8th.
Is there other days that you can choose?

@twosonsmom

As far as I know, Feb. 8 and 9 are the accepted student days and the day depends on the student’s college.

The scholars event spans two days, March 23 and 24.

Thanks beyondtx! That sounds really nice.

Yep, the accepted students welcome days are February 8/9 and the University Scholars event days are the ones in March.

@nanotechnology how does the host student thing work? Do we just blindly look for each other after checking in? Also, do all of the dorms host students, or is it only a certain few?

People in the scholars program host students- they sent out an email asking us to host. I’m not sure if other honors students will be asked to host this year. And you receive the name of your host, and they have your name and you have nametags on(at least that is how I remember it)

They may tweak the process to make meeting up with your host more streamlined. I wouldn’t worry about that too much at this point. They will likely assign you to a host based on similar interests, major, etc. Last year I hosted a prospective neuroscience student who was also interested in band and was coming from an IB school. (Alright, some of that was coincidence, but I know the person in charge of the university scholars program and she made a good match. )
