University Tranfer question

If you attend a community college and apply to a university as a transfer student, why do they require your high school transcript and SAT scores in the transfer process? I thought that if you attend a community college, you'll be starting fresh, so why do high school records matter? Do universities use high school records as part of their deciding process aside from the usual community college grades?

So, what if people just immigrated from another country and attended a community college here but went to some non-accredited school in their country, and then they came to the United States and have no record of any education prior to attending a community college?

So, why do they want high school records in the transfer process?

good question, I want to know as well

Think of it this way - if you did bad in high school and do well at your CC, it shows an upward trend which benefits you in the app process.

Regardless of whether you attend a CC, most schools (private, at least) will require HS transcripts in order to evaluate your performance over a longer period of time. A 4.0 at a CC is nice, but if you've only done it for a year they want to see what kind of student you were in the past. In the end, one or even two years of CC grades isn't quite enough for the adcoms to get a good idea of your academic ability.

On a side note, I recommend all prospective CC transfers take standardized tests (ACT or SAT) to attest to their intelligence. If you do well, it will help you in the app process.

As for your specific scenario (immigrant), I imagine you would be an exception to the rule but would need to contact the school and let them know. Obviously they cannot require a transcript if you do not have one to give them, but it will probably be harmful to your chances of admission.

I'm not an immigrant, but I was just wondering about their situation.

Anyways, I'm a high school senior and I plan to attend a CC and hopefully transfer to an Ivy League. I did really horrible in high school, but I'm taking some classes at a CC right now for a head start in college and I'm doing way better than I did in high school. So far in my CC, I've taken 2 classes (Precalc and Calc I) (5 units each) and I have an A and a B and hopefully for the one I'm taking (Calc II) this semester I have an A.

The thing is, I'm trying to get into a really competitive school as a transfer student and I'm also attempting to go for a really competitive major - Business Administration. So, do you have any recommendations on what I should do in CC to make myself look good before my transfer?
