Univ's Merit Money Still Available....good for STEM, pre-health, nursing & business

School website: UAHuntsville - Home

If someone out there with strong stats (ACT 31+ or 1360 SAT equivalent) has realized that they don't have a financial safety or affordable school, then I would suggest sending a quick app to UA Huntsville. The school is strong in STEM, pre-health professional, nursing, and business majors.

Someone with an ACT 31 or 1360 SAT (M+CR) with a 3.0+ GPA gets free tuition PLUS $500 towards course fees!

If you have an ACT 34 or SAT 1490, then you get a free ride as long as you have at least a 3.0 GPA...excellent deal! Tuition up to 32 hours (16 per semester), housing, $500 in course fees, book stipend, and meal plan!

*The school is still awarding merit to incoming frosh...including int'ls. *

If you look at the first link, there are full tuition and full ride scholarships for high stats.

For those with less than an ACT 31, the amount in the grid is DOUBLED if you're out of state. For instance...if you only have a 1290 SAT or 29 ACT, then you'd get $6k per year which brings OOS tuition down to about $13k....Still a good deal for int'ls who don't have instate price options.

Huntsville is NOT a "southern city"...believe me, I live here. The area is saturated with high-tech transplants from all over the country. The city has one of the highest concentration of PhDs in the nation. I think it was named one of "America's Geekiest Cities"....lol.. because of its "ridiculous number of rocket scientists, engineers and mathematicians" ....but don't let that scare you.

I know that the grads at this school do get jobs...well paid jobs.

The university is located within Cummings Research Park...the second largest research park in the nation....so lots of internship, co-ops, and research opps.

good tip for people

You should post this in the high school section and in the general parents forum. This would come in handy for those thrown for a loop when maybe some apps aren’t accepted.

Kat

It is a GREAT opportunity.

I have family in Huntsville and can attest to the fact that it’s a great place for STEM grads and they are hiring. It’s a great place to live, too.

It really is a great place to live. As a Southern Calif girl, I admit to being rather shocked when my H told me that his company was moving to Huntsville. ( I admit that I wasn’t entirely sure where Alabama was since my mind had just put all those southern states in some kind of blurred image in my head as simply all being located east of Texas, below Illinois and above Florida…no individual state border distinctions in my head…pathetic, I know!)

Before we flew out for a househunting trip, my H was told that he could choose between Baltimore and Huntsville…so off we went to visit both. It was a no-brainer (no offense to Baltimore), but Huntsville was much better. Lots of trees, sunny blue skies, puffy white clouds…not crowded! not much traffic! And, lots of people from everywhere!

just learned that the second link isn’t working right…so try this

[UAHuntsville - Welcome](http://www.uah.edu/financial-aid/aid/scholarships/welcome)

It won’t take you directly to the scholarship grid, but if then you click on the link that says:

Click here for 2012 - 2013 Freshmen Merit Award amounts.

Then that link should should take you to the grid. :)

It’s still a Southern city, it just doesn’t fit the stereotype of Southern cities - but then again, most Southern cities don’t. I would move back to Atlanta in a heartbeat, and actually that’s where I hope I can be when I finish my degree (which I am currently doing in New York. I miss sweet tea!). I would also move to Huntsville in a minute! I love the South :)

=======

lol…Juillet, you’re sooo right. What I meant is that Huntsville is not what people might think a “southern city” might be like - which you’re right, most southern cities don’t fit the stereotype at all.

And, after you finish grad school up there, move back to the region!

Someone is saying in the Parent’s Thread that the Geek link isn’t working, so try this…
