Unlimited Metro Pass

I know some colleges in NY supply their students with an unlimited metro card (or atleast the FA does). Does NYU?

If not, do you think it would be wise to invest in one? Or should I just see how often I use the train the 1st month?

“It’s probably not a good idea unless you use your metro card more than 3 times daily.”

Missamericanpie. ( So it has to be right, right? lol)

Some NY colleges give commuter a “Metro Grant” from New York State. My sister gets for Fordham. It is about an extra $2,000 added to her fin aid. When NYU send my first Fin Aid package, they assume that I as commuting. I dont think that grant was on there. But now Im going to dorming.

I am going to ASSUME that you are dorming. So here is my advice on it
Its depends on the type of Unlimited MetroCard you get. There is a monthly(30 days) metrocards: as of no it cost $89, only get if you plan to use the subway twice a day atleast five times a week, for four weeks.
There is a Two week/14 days one which is about $50. Again only get it if you plan to use it atleast twice a day, five times a week.
there is a 7 day/weekly one that cost about $24. Same rule.
Lastly there is a fun pass/one unlimited it cost $8. only get this one if your are going to use it more than four times. BTW a single fare is 2.25.
Since the MTA gives out free metrocards to 12grade- down for the school year, I only bought montlies during the summer.
Also MTA as “rewards” so when you buy a $10 card you will get $1.50 added to your card. You pay $10 you get $11.50 balance. You are ALWAYS going to have money left on your card beacuse of that. MTA allows/wants you to refill your card you can also combine your cards to put all your money in one.

Since I am dorming, I plan to buy a $2O metrocad(which has a $23 balance). Its seems to be the most ideal for ME.

I just purchased a easy pay xpress metrocard for my daughter, who will be dorming the furthest away from campus. It works like easy pass. It is pay per ride, but you open the account with 45.00 and you get 20 rides, and earn a 15% bonus right away. Once your account goes to 20.00, it refills from your linked bank account another 45.00 and you earn the 15% bonus again, giving you more free rides.

To me this is more economical than the unlimited, because you never lose a fare.
