I don't think I have the caliber on this site to start the official thread (being a fairly new member) plus it's a little early, but I just wanted to open the discussion up in case anyone else is biting their nails in anticipation like I am. The dreaded first week of January is coming up, during which I (like all the NMSF out there) hope I hear absolutely nothing.

The qualifying SAT score is 1960; I confirmed that with NMSC. If you are a NMSF or a parent of one, feel free to share any stories or info on the process, plans for after you/your kid makes NMF, etc. Best wishes to all the NMSF - may we all make NMF!

Oh, I guess the rejection letters were mailed the 1st week of Jan, not received. Thanks for the correction, I just want the 1st week of February to come!

DS also has one semester grade of C; I’m hoping that this is one of those years where one C is OK. DS is very calm and will accept whatever comes. I’m the one who’s nervous. Will let everyone know either way. Good luck to all!
Called today hoping to get some information on D as a homeschool ‘principal’. She didn’t offer so I didn’t ask, but certificates will be mailed to principals on 2/2 and letters to the student’s home on 2/9 ( I may have the certificate and letters confused, but the mailing dates/locations are correct).
Also, my mom works at Walgreen’s HQ, which offers a corporate scholarship for National Merit Finalists.
Apparently her co-worker who is in charge of scholarships said that corporations get a list of finalists about the 3rd week of January. So in case anyone here is hoping to get the corporate scholarship, you could possibly find out by calling them.
I’m expecting a letter soon telling me that I didn’t make it. I have three Cs (semester grades) and two Ds (semester grades, both Spanish from when I did online homeschooling sophomore year). I have pretty good extracurriculars. I wrote a fantastic essay and my counselor wrote a great letter of recommendation basically trying to help explain my terrible grades. My only hope is that they see that my Cs and two Ds came in my freshman year (new environment) and sophomore year (had to do online school and my god the language system was so convoluted). Especially the Ds, because I got As in Spanish freshman year. I did everything possible in my essay and in the rec letter to explain the grades. I doubt I’ll get it but I’m crossing my fingers. SAT score was confirming too.
I am also biting my nails in anticipation. Today is the 13th, so one day until the 14th date from last year, but no one has received a rejection yet so I guess feasibly we could hear any time in the next couple of weeks if we didn’t make it. I have a hard time with waiting on a good day, but right now, with needing to make decisions and send in housing deposits, I would REALLY like to know!
I haven’t even started with housing deposits… not sure how that works since the housing would be paid for by the scholarship if I get it. I haven’t actually visited the college I’m planning to go to yet since I’ll only go there if I’m a NMF, so we’re holding of until after early February. Are you pretty sure that your S or D will make it?
Nope. I am feeling it’s about 50-50. We have two very different plan A’s and B’s, and if DS doesn’t make it, I really want to send in some housing deposits to be sure he gets housing at Plan B schools. I’m not going to worry about NMF schools, since I am pretty sure they’ll get him in. Waiting, waiting…
FYI, I just learned that I am a finalist (yay) from Walgreen’s (they offer a corporate scholarship for children of employees). I had 1 C in AP Calc, so hopefully this year one C doesn’t matter? Good luck everyone
