****UNOFFICIAL Class of 2015 National Merit Finalist Thread****

@chillmom praying for your health and best wishes on NMF. We all have our stuff and deal with it the best we can. It’s not a contest about who has it worse. We all root for each other, and our kids.

@chillmom To me, it’s all just nervous energy - kind of like waiting to see if we’ve won the lottery or something like that. My son is just like yours - he just goes about his normal routine at school and at home. During this process, I asked him one time what his thoughts were & he said that he hopes he makes NMF but there’s no sense in worrying because there’s nothing else we can do about it. I’m really glad he feels that way because life will go on no matter how this comes out. All of these kids are amazing. As a parent though, I realize that a NMF scholarship would be a huge financial blessing for our family - hence the nervous energy. We’re not as crazy/paranoid as we all might sound - just blowing off steam & having a little fun with it all. All my best to you and your son!

Hey, speaking of the lottery, we buy a couple of tickets maybe 2-3 times/year, when the amount gets so high that it’s in the newspaper and online. So DH bought a Powerball ticket at the gas station on the way home from work tonight, because it’s in the billions of dollars today or whatever. And now we have a college-funding back-up plan!

@GoAskDad HAHAHAHAHA!!! That’s great! I’m going to go try that… oh, wait, I’m not 18 yet, darn.

I know it is not a contest about who has it worseCshecmia. But for some of us it does help define who we are and how we think about life. Thanks to all for any prayers. Always appreciated. When I ask kid what is thoughts are he says he doesn’t know when he will know, there’s nothing he can do about it and then exits stage left as fast as possible. :). Those of you who are in your 50s should know the exit stage right or left from the old days.

I’m actually just here for the entertainment value,

@PAMom21 You and Smartie-Pants Stan enjoying yourselves?

@Chillmom1961, it will help you out to understand this thread if you go back a few pages to GoAskDad’s genius bit about the Friday afternoon fest at the NMSC offices. Seriously, you will laugh out loud and see why so many of us check in here. Some of us are wound too tightly, some of us need the money for our kids to manage this 4 year ride, some of us fall into both categories and some of us are groupies who have come to appreciate the people who post here. (You should have been here last September.)

LOL. My bottle of bubbly still chills. My DS rolls his eyes.

I don’t even have a child in the class of 2015 and I’m still enjoying this thread!

This has been a really great bunch of people to sit out The Infinitely Big Wait with. I mean really, they took the test 467 days ago, and we are still waiting???

Yesterday afternoon, I emailed our guidance counselor (very small school with good guidance) and she responded that they had no information yet about Finalist status. I believe her, I don’t think the school would keep it a secret. They had several NMSF this year and were pretty quick about revealing that.

Wow, I just found this thread/chat, couldn’t take the wait any more… Uggghhh! I am a homeschool mom, and I thought for sure we would have heard from NMS by now. I was getting worried that something had gone wrong. So, we’re not alone!

Son got a 215 on PSAT and 2220 on SAT

I feel like standing by my mailbox today!

Thanks for the thread, I’ve learned a few things here this morning.

Welcome @FLhsMomof4 - glad you found us all. If you could post something when you finally hear some news it will be a big help as you homeschoolers will get this info first (along with the schools of course, but they may or may not tell us right away). Thanks!

I can’t believe we’re still waiting. I will be stalking our poor mailman again today - but I don’t have high hopes, as I would expect the homeschoolers in Illinois to hear first. If letters were mailed on the 2nd, I really can’t imagine why it would be taking this long.

Semi-finalist notifications took a week and one day to reach us in PA back in September. @luvmygirls may have had hers the day earlier, which makes today hopeful.

I wasn’t paying attention at all to NMSF notifications last fall - I actually assumed I was already a NMSF. But I hadn’t found CC yet either.

Homeschool NMSF here: I’ve been stalking this thread since Monday! It’s nice to see other people are as antsy for this as I am! Our mail hasn’t run yet, but I’m doing my best not to get my hopes up because it doesn’t seem likely the letter will be here today.

Thanks 3girls3cats. I better understand now.

Maybe the carrier pigeons can’t find their landmarks due to all the snow on the ground?
